Quixel Megascans are coming. They will reveal launch details on 10 December.
I was sure that this library will contains only textures but looks like they are scanning meshes too. Will be great if they will offer few LODs to choose from instead of just releasing high poly ones.
Anyway it looks great. I know that this is rendered in VRAY and meshes are highpoly, but we will have a huge library with top quality assets and all PBR required maps, where you can get something in a moment. Looks like they have a lot of stuff inside already and are gathering more and more scans everyday. Im sure a lot of studios and single devs will benefit from it and will be able to spend more time on custom assets/game mechanics/other stuff instead of creating/gathering visual content that they can buy. Unity Asset Store is the best example. I hope the pricing will be reasonable.
And we have Unity 5 coming to render this stuff in it .
What are these super-high-res models used for? At 4 million triangles for 1 rock, I could imagine a billion triangles in a scene… so it’s going to render super slow?
CG movies, static one frame renders, maybe something else too.
As it says “Hihg LOD” on the screnshot, I’m sure that they will offer few LOD levels for every model. I’m still not sure if they will be selling models too but from this breakdown it looks like they will.
lol turn based much?? haha
lol makes me think of like, civilization games have an option to “play by email” … who does that!! , already it feels like a turn doesnt mean much and takes too long sometimes…
Guys a few decades back it would take hours to render a frame from Crysis, so hopefully in a few decades the above will be running at a smooth 45fps on most rigs + AI + IAP
Hobby and Freelance $99 as far as I know, not sure what megascans price is on top, possible subscription model similar to CG textures Quixel | 3D world-building made easy
I own the suite. But for the megascans, nobody knows how expensive it’s going to be… I’ve heard as well of a subscription model, without pricing range though… wait and see mode…
