Is there anything similar to Megascans for Unity that's free?

The title says it all really.

No. Megascans is only available to Unreal developers for free because Epic Games owns them, and even then it’s only free because Epic Games makes their money off of successful game developers. If Unity were to purchase a similar asset company it wouldn’t be free because they make their money off of the hope of success and not the actual success.

Quixel Megascans offers 3d assets. What you linked is just textures.

With quixel you can create scenes like these

You’ve really obviously not used Quixel’s library at all.

Content is king, epic did a very smart move in bringing in Quixel. We looked at both Unity and Unreal back in 2016 and choose Unity because had forward rendering which works better in VR but since then unreal have added their own forward rendering. I do regret the choice a bit

It has nothing to do with being greedy. The OP is asking for equivalents but nothing you’re linking is remotely an equivalent. Quixel is superior to just about everything out there and for far less money (completely free for devs willing to use the Unreal Engine).

That’s not even the same quality.

I love OpenGameArt as a prototyping resource and that’s about it. Even then I find that they often have things that are either too specialized or that the quality of the generalized assets are lacking for anything more than a lot of basic projects.

No, there isn’t, and there will never be.

If Unity bought an equivalent service you can be sure they would charge people at least 1000$ per year to use it.

Yeah, I know that it exists and there’s free stuff, but comparing it to professionally reconstructred photgrammetry models isn’t exactly fair. The quality is lower, there’s no denying that. That was my point.

I just went ahead and bought a subscription to megascans. I want megascans but I don’t want to use Unreal.

The pricing is OK if you need alot of assets in a short timespan. If you pay for it for years it would become pretty expensive assets

Edit: cheaper than inhouse offcourse

Gametextures.com has quite a good bit of textures/materials. They are different from Megascans though, as they have quite a bit of procedural stuff, but if I’m not mistaken they also have some that are from photogrammetery. The subscription is free for non-commercial usage, and only $19.99 a month if you make under $250,000 a year.

Well, there’s this:

It was made by Quixel, so it’s sort of like a little free sample from megascans.

Didn’t quixel use to sell their assets on the store? Did epic pull that when they bought them, well the price was a bit over the top anyway if I recall correctly

I have that downloaded. I really like it a lot.
