What’s the benefit of 24" over 22" at the same resolution? They take up more space, but they don’t show you anything more or better because the pixels are bigger - everything’s chunkier.
For gaming they’re cool because you get a bigger picture with no performance hit and with games the pixel size doesn’t really matter, but for working I prefer to have the smaller screen at the same resolution.
There’s something worth thinking about there - is this primarily for working or playing? For playing you want to optimise for a single, full-screen app. For working you want to optimise for seamlessly switching between two or more apps (you can only look at one at a time, it’s the switch where time is saved / productivity is increased).
I tried 2 x 27’s once and that was just too much, got really sore eyes.
1 x 27" is nice in the middle if you do a lot of gaming. Gaming on 1 x 22" while the other is off or not used is not so nice.
My desk is a repurposed table, so I can fit a stack (or three) of consoles, 2x27" monitors and a few MIDI and game controllers on it. But mainly I have the table for the monitors. And because it was free.
Unity’s main window on one screen, Shader Forge, Terrain Composer, MonoDevelop and whatever else on the second screen. At least one of the screens should be 1080p if you have trouble reading at the silly new resolutions
anyways, if you already have the two, why not get the new big one you want and use it alongside one of the others (or both if your card supports it). i usually like to have two monitors be as close in size as possible though, and the same kind too, but if you really want that big screen its workable.
1920x1080 on 24 inch vs 22 inch…your windows and stuff would still be bigger. Bigger at the same resolution though since your screen is physically larger. (same resolution stretched over a larger screen). 22 inch would arguably LOOK better, but still function like a 22 inch work space. With 24 inch, a window that is the same size relative to the screen size as it is on 22 inch will be physically larger on 24 inch.
22 inch vs 24 inch can have the same resolution though. After using a 22inch for a long long time I really started to feel how tiny they are.
24 inch just feels like a sweet spot in size.
I’ll probably want 27 inch monitors 2 years from now
Yes, while it’s still mostly personal preference all of that stuff is precisely my point. Same image. Same digital real estate. Takes up more physical room.
I don’t see any advantage is displaying the same stuff spread over more space for work purposes, where I do see advantage in displaying the same stuff with less desk real estate taken up.
