Hey guys, just made this little WebGL game on kongregate in 24 hours.
Well technically less as I slept through most of it. So more like I’d say 8-12 or so real working hours on it.
But check it out.
It was just a little fun challenge I did.
Despite how simple it is, it’s actually kinda hard.
It’s a 2D game where you have to stop Asteroids and Spacejunk from getting into the blackhole.
The more junk it collects the bigger it gets, thus increasing in size and a bigger gravitational pull area to suck things in.
The only way to destroy the blackhole is with Specials. They are blue orbs you can collect either with so many space kills or when they decide to spawn.
Great little game concept. It reminds me of something like a an old Atari VCS game. I never found any blue orbs to collect. Like how the black hole pulls the space junk in toward it. All things considered I think it is very good for 12 hours. Of course now you or others could clone it in less time but that first pass takes time experimenting with timing of appearance of junk, gravitational pull, movement speed and so forth. Nice job!
Yeah I’m sure someone could clone it quicker than I made it. But honestly, a lot of what I was doing was trial and error so some stuff didn’t happen in the final version. Such as actually rotating around the blackhole if you got in it’s pull, it’s hard to control once you get into it sometimes, so now I just have your position rotate with it’s rotation. lol.
oh and blue orbs appear after 200 seconds roughly. I have each spawn for them to vary between 200 and like 240 seconds.
Aha! I clearly need to play it again because I gave it a quick play but was short on time never made it past 90 secs per play I think. lol I will revisit it after work and workout.
hehehe yeah. I did that so it gives the blackhole a chance to actually become hard. Not just beat it right away.
I was thinking in terms of challenging rather than just beat it right away quickly. So it keeps people trying it again and again
Nice game idea! and very well done in 12 hours! I like that the blackhole also pulls you into it
The game was pretty hard, but the blackhole never felt like a threat. I could just keep shooting towards the hole, so nothing could fall into it. The only reason I died was because of the stuff hitting me
Maybe have the objects orbit around the blackhole, getting closer and closer to it.
So eventually all objects fall into the blackhole if they are not shot by the player.
and I would remove the objects ability to kill you and instead make the spaceship rotate and move uncontrollable for a short time period if one of the objects hit you. So only the blackhole would be lethal for you.
This way it will create a form of tension and release:
if the player is hit, he will try to control his uncontrollable ship to avoid getting too close to the blackhole and at the same time try to aim and shoot other objects to prevent them from getting pulled into the hole(which will expand the blackhole if they do, and create a bigger threat ).
If he survives this hit, he will feel accomplished and satisfied.
The player will also feel great if his shot hits an object just before the blackhole is able to take it, while he is rotating uncontrollable
But it’s just an idea. It needs to be tested to see if it’s fun
