My college has Unity Pro Education Licenses that they have for students to use and installed on school computers. If I were to use the Educational License to make a game, could I sell it if I don’t use any Pro features? It would be the same as using a Unity Free License? I checked for the answer in many places but couldn’t find anything.
Thanks,
Jim
I don’t think that many regular users know this, this might be something to email the licensing department of Unity about if you haven’t already
.
Unfathomable Chaos, Thanks for the quick response. I filled out a Contact Form and will respond back here once I find out the answer. I don’t see why it would be a problem, just compile the game in a free version later, but I want to make sure.
Haven’t gotten a response yet, anyone else know any information pertaining to this?
I’m sure you will get an answer. But 1 day is rather short, the support turnaround lately seems to have reached 2 perhaps 3 days again. Also its a question they perhaps first need to decide on as its normally no question as education license means completely no commercial use at all.
Switching later to free to compile does not make the action more compliant cause you used pro along the path. Chances are, I guess, that you for example want to use VCS during development for which a pro license is required as its not available in free so a full noncommercial educational license would not be allowed to be used either and alike → not needfully trivial to answer
I don’t plan on using VCS. I don’t really plan on using any of the pro features, but I want to make sure that if I work on a college computer that has pro educational license on it, that I’m not dooming my chances of selling any potential products.
Hmm so you aren’t the license holder or am I missunderstanding.
If thats the case then I guess you might not get an answer at all (or none that answers your question I should better say as they are pretty surely going to answer), the one responsible for your educational license should best request the informations and forward the relevant part to you as only he might be entitled to get license related informations on his license.
But I’m sure the UT support will clear that up for you if its really required, so best wait for their response first
Thanks for trying to help out, appreciate it, I’ll just wait patiently.
