TL;DR:
The Forum migration to Unity Discussions is successfully completed, making Unity Discussions combining all functions of the former Unity Answers (Q&A), Unity Discussions and Unity Forum. Most data has been retained, and redirects are being set in place for continuity. Please use this thread or Unity Discussions Feedback section to share your feedback.
Hi everyone,
We are pleased to announce that the Forum migration to Unity Discussions has now been completed. Thank you again for your feedback and support during this project.
From today, Unity Discussions is the consolidated Unity community platform - to share announcements, updates, learnings, ask questions, have conversations and more. It will combine all functions of the former Unity Answers (Q&A), Unity Discussions and Unity Forum into one place, in a new structure, navigation and user experience.
- We migrated all the valid users and topics/posts (either 1 reply or 1 like), with the criteria as described in our June announcement.
- While sunsetting Unity Forum, we are currently establishing redirects in order to preserve SEO rankings unaffected, and to ensure continuity for the user experience.
Key features
-
Enhanced information discoverability
- All-in-one location: By consolidating our forum and Q&A sites, everything you need is now in one place.
- Streamlined structure: We’ve streamlined over 250 sub-forums into a more navigable structure with custom filters with tags for easier information access, while maintaining a familiar structure.
-
User experience improvements
- Optimized navigation: Custom breadcrumbs and sidebar filters help you quickly find areas of interest.
- Enhanced topic creation: The composer now features dropdown menus to guide you in creating topics in the right place with the correct tags. Note: we’re continually working to make the composer more user-friendly.
- More room for content: In response to user feedback, we have reduced empty space to increase the width of the topic list and content areas.
- Inclusive space: Our “Getting Started” area is a place for beginners, allowing them to post without needing to know exactly where to go.
- Official identification: Easily identify Unity team members by their Unity flair next to their user icons.
-
Community platform consolidation
- Resource optimization: Migrating to a modern, unified platform allows us to focus and centralize more resources on enhancing your experience.
- Deeper insights: Consolidated engagement metrics provide deeper insights, enabling us to better understand and respond to community needs.
- Advanced capabilities: Benefit from robust APIs, improved SEO, and other advanced features. For example, through access to the built-in API, we will be able to integrate Unity Discussions closer with internal and external Unity services, for example by automatically gathering and forwarding “Feedback” topics related to certain product areas to the right teams without requiring them to manually sift through entire categories.
Known bugs being addressed
- We are addressing the sidebar bug where “Latest Topics” may be highlighted when “Top Topics” is selected, in collaboration with our platform vendor.
- Some user statistics are not accurate. The solution is in place, currently being applied.
- Some quotes are not linked to the original posts and show attributes. The solution is in place, currently being applied.
- Code syntax highlighting is not applied to some posts. The solution is in place, currently being applied.
What’s next
Unity Discussions will remain in Beta status as we continue to enhance features and user experience. In the coming period:
- We will share several tutorials to guide you through key features and how to use Discussions effectively in the next 2 weeks.
- We will closely monitor Discussions and user feedback to further improve the site. Your feedback is important to us - please use this thread or post on the Unity Discussions feedback section.
- The site’s accessibility levels will be thoroughly evaluated to ensure site compliance with WCAG standard.
