Web Player Install - Admin Rights

I read somewhere that the Unity Web Player does not require that you have administrative rights for installation. I have teachers trying to install the player and am finding that they can not do it. Many schools are locked down like Fort Knox, but am wondering if there is something “special” we need to do…?

It’s certainly possible that management software could be preventing the installation of the Unity player. The technical staff at the school may have installation restricted by a list of allowable software, or it may be that all installations are prohibited. If you think there might be some bad reaction between the Unity plug-in and the management software then you should contact support@unity3d.com.

Thanks andeeee. Really appreciate it …

I am a little confused though. Could you or someone please help me understand exactly what the new player allows that previous installers did not?

I suppose what you are saying is that “in the absence of special management software” that the new web player can be installed without admin rights. But if management software exists - as is often the case in schools - that restrictions may still apply.

I dont know much about these security issues, so more details would really be appreciated. It would be great if I could put something on my web site so that teachers will know what they are up against. If they cant install the player, some will take it out on me (and perhaps Unity) and insist that its bad software …

Thanks!
