What version do I use for the tutorial

What version do I use for the tutorial? Sorry I’m new and the other posts I see are years old. I just want to be doing whatever is most up to date but also works. I usually like to follow along as apposed to just watch videos because it helps me retain the information better. Thanks

Ideally use the same version as the tutorial, though also look for recent tutorials.

The core fundamentals of Unity haven’t much changed, but UI and certain APIs have been deprecated in favour of new stuff.

Unity has their own learning resource that is kept up to date: https://learn.unity.com/

Same wisdom applies, use the same major/minor version as the tutorial, but can use the latest patch version.

One thing I got really confused on. Version 6.1x is the same as 6000.1x It’s at unityhub://6000.1.17f1/c0b9d3899998 if anyone is lost like I was. I had the menu on the left of the hub hidden and it was on projects, not installs. When I made the menu visible and went to installs I seen the
image I didn’t realise they used two different numbers for the same version LOL.

Unity 6 introduces the foundation for the next generation, so releases between 6.0 and 7.0 (previously referred to as 6.8) are expected to maintain a high level of compatibility. However, historically, each x.x release has been treated as a separate major version of Unity rather than as part of a single major version x. You can learn more in my Complete Tutorial.

Also the 6000.0.0 versioning is to ensure the version number is greater than when it was based on the year of release (eg, 2022.0.0, etc).
