When i try to install editor it says "Download failed: EPERM: operation not permitted mkir (my file name)"

im just trying to download editor

Sounds like a permission issue. This could happen if you use non-default install and project locations. So try the defaults first.

Antivirus could also block access, especially 3rd party antivirus is all too keen on considering developer tools “dangerous”. Disable antivirus while installing, and exclude Unity and projects from live scans.

Make sure you have enough free disk space, at least 20 GB on the system drive.

Also don’t run Hub/Editor as admin as is often recommended, it’s a huge security and loss-of-data risk and absolutely unnecessary.

I JUST fixed this issue on my PC. I had to uninstall my hub then go to users, USER, appdata and delete files from roaming - UnityHUB folder and local - Unity folder and then redownload the editor. I think those temp files were corrupted or conflicting with new downloads. I also had my firewall and antivirus stuff all turned off just in case. At first I simply tried to turn all that stuff off and attempt to download but it had no affect.

I think it’s worth noting that when I downloaded the Hub again, it began installing the newest version of the editor immediately into a default folder in the C drive so I cancelled it and configured where I wanted my editor installs and projects etc. before beginning the install again. Hope this works for those of you still finding themselves here. Cheers.

I had the same issue today when trying to install the editor to a folder on my D: drive . The solution was to go to the desired folder and change the permissions so Unity hub could write to it.
