making game that I once usually play is actually a dream for me. And RTS have always caught my attention. uhm I know it is possible to make an RTS game with Unity… but for a newbie like me where should I start? I really want to learn this badly regardless on how hard or how long its goin to take. I’m serious here and I admit that I’m a newbie but I dont care. This is one of my greatest dreams… all I want is to learn. All I need is knowledge. so I hope you guys understand
I need your help if you can just please teach me ![]()
Hi spiderclan,
When you are first starting out, I wouldn’t recommend focusing too much on making things that are for/in any specific genre. Your best bet would be to get comfortable with learning C# or Unityscript (I personally recommend C#) and follow tutorials on how to do things like making simple utility-type scripts. Learn how to manipulate objects in 3d space via script, catch player input, etc etc.
As a side note, your topic is definitely not a support topic, so please be more careful of where you make your posts. Support topics are to get help with bugs/errors that you encounter with Unity, not to ask for help to learn how to use Unity.
Best of luck to you!

Well a project is a way of doing a lot of things and learning from them, while having a main goal and sub-tasks.
So basically if he starts with a basic rts premise, one unit collects resources, one builds units he could learn all about variables, how to store them, camera, controls and a bunch of other stuff. Some times learning on-the-job is better than going through making a pong clone, making a breakout clone etc.
@spiderclan123: you would need to outline the most basic elements of your RTS and then focus on each one. Tutorials should exist on the specific topic though.
thanks uhm if not here in the support section the next time I need to ask something where should I go?
