Why isn't the Asset Store just a normal website I can browse from the web?

I have emailed Unity about this before. I simply asked “Why do I have to BUY the Asset Store to use it?” Apple’s Mac/AppStore wasn’t purchased for $500… it’s free. So should this Unity Asset Store. It will help the users of the community trying to sell their packages tremendously.

The unity asset store is given out for free cause it works in unity free too.

I guess you should not write the support if you didn’t invest even 5 minutes on the matter.

The only $500 license unity offers is the Asset Server / Team license which is something TOTALLY different  (and asset server requires unity pro to even license it on top of it)

Agree, a browser based version would be very helpful…

I love the Asset Store and its idea just as it is, but for quick asset searching

I would prefer an average website,

then for buying/importing you can open Unity just as usual.

Sometimes when I’m not at home I’d like to browse through the Store, but I don’t have Unity installed.

And well, it’s a bit slow too. :stuck_out_tongue:

i’m writing a website for this problem, i hope it will be rdy 2 use at xmas …

*+1__*__

Sorry but I wouldn’t trust any website that says it could do this with my password and username.

no!

it makes only a visual list of @ moment 1200 links like this

but in a website where you can search and order

NO PW OR USERNAME !

after you are @ the original site you can do wat you want.

Yes, I have to agree, a browse-able site is needed. Sometimes I want to browse the store without loading up Unity.

^^ that’s why i write the page

its the only way to browse the contend

@ moment i write the webcode to show the contend in the webpage and order a mail adress to send me bugreports or links thats not in the list

I agree, so here, have a +1

I agree,i think the asset store would become more popular and the sales would increase really nicely.I would love to browse the Unity Asset Store when I’m not at home
+1 for this!

Well that’s alot better.

i think @ morning i set the webpage online ( i hope the Unity3d team will allow it )

i write at every page a text like : THIS IS NOT THE UNITY PAGE THIS IS A FANSIDE !!!

I’ve just tried to load the asset store, and it took a wooping 4 minutes to display the main page. I hope asset store customers are the patient type…

Exactly. I can’t stand having to have unity open to browse the asset store.

It took 10 seconds here, and my internet speed isn’t very good. The asset store isn’t the speediest thing in the world, but it’s not that slow.

+1 for me as well… I’d like to browse the Asset Store from any computer as well. (Forget the buying part… I just want to see the awesome stuff (and links to the companies that make the awesome stuff).

I look forward to your page Triple-Axe.

@Eric5h5 or the team is it ok to present it or is it not allowed ?

i refresh the data every sunday the presentet data are at a local db

You should ask Unity Technologies directly (I don’t work for them). Send them an email.
