It’s quite laughable really

When people dreamed of flying and thought of ideas how to make an airplane people laughed at them too. Luckily there are people in this world with ambition.

That’d be an awesome game, who says they can’t pull it off! they might surprise you.

I can’t even fathom the number of reasons to not attempt to create an MMO the size of earth.

Even putting aside the technical limitations that prevent anyone from creating and maintaining a world of that size, you will never see another living soul for as long as you play the game… what fun.

This game is basically the description of every 10 year olds’ “dream mmo” before they have any understanding of design, workflow or programming.

reality

All the way through the trailer I was giggling at the stupidity of it. At the end when they zoomed out, and showed it supposedly running on a iPhone, I laughed my ass off. This is a sad sad way to make people believe something ‘amazing’ is coming when in fact they only have a fancy trailer.

Either they have made some of the biggest advancements in pretty much all areas of compute science ever, or are complete scumbags who figure a fancy trailer is enough to get people to pay.

Mr Molyneux? Is that you?

The devices it runs on will be the least of there problems  can always stream or cloud.

Ha! Like it.
Yeah, and when it fails to work until it’s patched with a 1.5 gig file, it’s Molyneux.

It’s an interesting idea and I think one of the most important advancements mankind will make will be virtual worlds, but I doubt we are close to there yet. I smell scam!

Please god let kickstarter deny them .

We need some minimum bar of quality , since theirs no way these guys would be able to make such a giant game it amounts to fraud .

There’s nothing particularly amazing about it tbh. I personally prefer trying to succeed in the real world than an arbitary simulation - but I’m sure there’s a lot of money in this.

Have to question why people think it’s impossible?

This game exists already. I have played it for 35 years. Graphics are pretty awesome but it do get a bit repetetive after a while.

Wasn’t another name for this RL?

I think it uses a permanent dead-is-dead system. Like, if you die in-game, you’re never allowed to play again. I prefer games I can invest more of myself in.

Me too, wish they’d make a sequel though without hangovers, idiot bosses and diarrhea!

I remember that game! I was something like a Level 32 Fry Cook… game sucked -_-

It does seem pretty outrageous although there’s a couple technologies surfacing that does planet rendering.

The whole point of the ad is to get people speculating and talking which is what it’s accomplishing here.

Streaming a procedural planet isn’t impossible. But that’s a far cry from an interactive, sandbox MMO the size of earth. That’s not even considering the design problems with something like that. Many MMOs have had to scale down the size of their worlds simply because players couldn’t find each other. In something this size, unless you literally had every person on the planet playing at the same time (which is physically impossible), it would have this problem 100 fold.

So, is it impossible. Technically, no, but in actuality, probably yes. Is it a good idea? Not at all. It does nothing but show that these people have no idea what they’re doing, which further shows that its most likely impossible for them as well.

Piece of cake.

If you took the population of every WOW server and combined them to one server, they wouldn’t ever have a problem finding each other. Still, the claims they made about what they want to do are absurd.
