Unless you can marry the Hulk, I’m not interested.
A parallel universe? Cool, they have 13.7 billion years of work ahead.
That of course is if they can make assets for scenes the size of 6 trillion miles… Working at the speed of light.
Totally possible ![]()
Ok let me count… the engine, hmm… graphics… mumbles yeah, plus the procedural trees … hmm… mumbles you can create boats calculates … yeah, it’d take aprox. 60 million man-hours to plan the whole game as doodles.
Then they have to start working on the game!
Guys they never said the size of the people, they are 1000 km high.
If it is genuine… My only concern is about the type of realism. If it is toonish like WOW then no thanks but if it aims at realistic terrains and assets and storylines then I would definitely give it a go. As for it being every ten year old’s dream… I think it’s every age groups dream. The video talks about building empires etc on a previously uninhabited planet. Where did all the stuff come from. It would have to be made and again realism would need to be paramount for it to be convincing.
I’ve looked into the idea of parallel worlds for a game scenario and Astralum below has something like that going but without these people giving attention to all the fundamentals of Civilisation, psychology etc. and what it would take to establish something on an uninhabited planet then I believe it will fall short.Nice to hear it talked about. but it really needs to be approached like a social experiment.
This should literally be illegal to advertise something so fucking stupid.
If Kick Starter accepts this, I will never take that site seriously again.
They are literally advertising a game that is impossible to make.
Go on, elaborate.
After watching this a few times… I think its possible, I think it will be not fun with a world the size of ours though.
Putting aside the fact that they specifically say each player only gets 1 character, even all of the WoW avatars in existence couldn’t fill this world.
The World in World of Warcraft is estimated to be about 100 square miles (about 3 trillion square feet, give or take) as opposed to the “15.5 quadrillion square feet” these shmucks are claiming.
WoW has 245 servers, with an average of 48,000 players per server (not all on at the same time). This is a total population of about 11,760,000 (again, not all on at the same time).
To put it another way. All of the players in WoW equate to about 0.1% of earth’s population. Even if every WoW player made 10 characters and played ALL of them every minute of every day, it would be 1% of the worlds population.
Trust me, you would never see these people.
EDIT: Now I’m just having fun with numbers.
Let’s assume these guys manage to build this huge, interactive world that the world’s greatest minds have not been able to create. Then let’s assume they manage to reach the record breaking numbers of World of Warcraft (created by Blizzard, who had a previous record of creating great games and already had a fanbase of millions AND built their MMO on an existing, popular IP). Let’s pretend they do that.
Next, let’s assume that all of these players are online for 5 hours a day (more than the average WoW player). This puts about 250,000 people online at any given time (concurrent users). That’s about 0.003% of the world’s population online in a world the size of earth.
SO! If the average population of a city on earth is about 50,000, then that means there will be an average of 1 to 2 people in any given town… and one of them is you. This sound fun yet?
Who’s running the corner market? Who’s building your house? Who’s running the farm? And who are they growing food for?
Basically, any infrastructure would collapse with this low population. That means you would be forced into a primitive lifestyle of living in caves, huddled around a campfire… alone. WOW! This game is gonna be great!
What does all this mean? It means I’m a far more experienced developer than these clowns. That being the case, I can tell you from experience that this project is, in fact, impossible.
@Khanstruct My pa told me that there maths stuff you be talkin is the devil trying to trick us.
LOL. Voodoo mah-jik, mon
Thank you for saving me the time of typing why this project is just merely impossible.
Can you imagine the time it would take to make all of the assests to fill THE ENTIRE EARTH…
All of the models and sound effects and textures and art and everything else.
How could anyone possibly believe this project is achievable…?
Guys… seriously, full size worlds have been done before programs can make it for you… its doesn’t even have buildings or anything… actually getting it to the players is more problematic though, but I guess they will just stream it and that is a bit annoying.
The project won’t work, it’s as simple as that…
Would you be kind enough to give an example? I’m genuinely curious.
My money is on this whole thing being a publicity stunt for this LaunchRock service they are using.
stop bashing the idea…they have 1000 years to finish that project ![]()

As impressive as these examples are (or at least as impressive as unreleased software and tech demos can be), a planet with infinite level of terrain detail does not a second universe make.
I know… but I was just saying that the reasons it is unrealistic are not these:
Its not impossible to have an infinite world with infinite detail. Its even possible to break this into manageable chunks and stream them to players. However, you would not be able to have destructible terrain (chopping down trees for example) and have that information persistent. I suppose, you could… if you had a few kray’s super computers…
However, that’s all procedural content. Which is great if you want to live in the forest forever, but if you expect people to be building farms, towns, weapons, etc., as they claim, someone has to model, texture, and possibly rig and animate (not to mention program stats for) every one of those objects. For everything… ever… like Scribblenaughts x 15.5 quadrillion…
Unless they’ve figured out a way to just program string theory… bit shift to symbolize one of the 6 flavors, then just let physics work its magic… ![]()
