Hey guys! Me and a group of friends are creating a new zombie game. It will be an open world rpg unlike most zombie games. Your objective will be to,well, survive! Features that will be in the game include: crafting, making safe houses, survivors, looting, zambies(of course),and so on. Ideas are VERY appreciated!! Hope to talk to y’all soon. Bye!
Welcome to the forums!
Did you watch the Walking Dead TV series? That should get you on the right track for some great ideas to see how those people survived.
Yes I do actually! Can’t wait till season 4! Thanks for replyin! Any other ideas would be great, mainly character and map wise. Other ideas would be great too.
-Letters/notes/dairies about during the outbreak and before the outbreak, some for added story, some that can lead you to secret stashes/areas.
Thanks! Hadn’t thought of that. Reminds me of the last of us.
I don’t mean to be negative, but someone just made the type of game you are talking about. They just raised half a million dollars on kickstarter also http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/7daystodie/7-days-to-die-zombie-survival-game
Cool. Still doesnt mean we can’t try. Thanks for tellin me though.
It’s great yall have a lot of steam to tackle a game like this, but what’s probably going to happen (since you sound inexperienced) is you’ll probably run into a problem you didn’t expect and lose that motivation. Not that it’s a bad thing, just something that may happen.
I really have nothing to show for my advice, but keep the game small. Have each game last only a few minutes. Probably centered around a single gimmick/feature. Not only will that get your team adjusted to how things will work, but puts you in a position to expand the game from there.
Implementing the very basics, and maybe the few original gimmicks/features as Windexglow2 mentions, and then having that as a demo for people to test/to raise money on kickstarter. People’s feedback, and obviously money also -if there is a kickstarter for your game-, will motivate you to finish the game. But more importantly, just a testing demo version. I imagine playing the basics with some friends/against them would motivate you to create a new weapon etc. Or you might be like, “I wish I could chainsaw you.” And then make a chainsaw model.
Let’s see (basics): a simple map (procedural generated), a character (controls, rigging etc), a few zombies somewhere on the map (procedural generated) that respawn and keep coming after you (using a simple path finding A.I). Also, the damage mechanics, health etc, one or two weapons. That’s it I think… for now, that would be somewhat fun. The zombies and level change every time you play. After that, you can add a few different characters to choose, based on the same character controls, a few different weapons, maybe some abandoned car/building models, and then multiplayer/network mode.
This can all pretty much be done by using assets/models. So, you only really have to learn the unity system, and maybe a scripting language. Java script is the easiest, especially for a non programmer.
After all that, add your original feature/idea. But with the above, you could get some interest/funding maybe… or someone else to join your team, who knows.
Thanks for the advice! We don’t have alot expericene with unity except for one guy in our team. We were actually planning on starting fairly simple then add on as time progresses. I’ll probably go to the collaboration section for help.
U Should make Different types of zombies that would be cool
We do plan on adding “MUTANTS”(that’s what we’re calling the zombie types). We have an idea for two. 1. The Wraith which is a zombie type that is almost decayed to the bone. It walks on on its 4 limbs like a dog and lets out a loud shriek to both stun the player and lure normal zombies. 2. The Titan which is buff, almost fat, like zombie that has a bubble-like thing on his back, which is basically the weakness for it. It does double damage than normal zombies.
Nice those zombies sound awesome
Do u have a idea about what type of environment your going to use?
Yes. We plan for the map to be quite large(at least half the size of San Andreas). There will be a major city, suburbs, and woods area. However, when we come out with the beta version it will probably be smaller and probably no city. There will be a day/night cycle along with various seasons. The type of environment in its self we’re not to sure of. I will try to send y’all pics of progress tommorow.
Hello I could be part of the project? I know I’m french my Unity3D I understand the french my skype: n-boy-officiel
Cool. That would be great!
Hey guys! Been a while. Sorry.
Ok so we’ve been workin on the game alot! Right now we are making custom meshes for the zombies instead of using used ones. I’m also working on a sniper rifle. I will try to send photos soon. Just saying. Also one of my buddies said we should have the zombies come at night. Though a good idea, I think that’s too much like minecraft. I was thinking about instead making the zombies more aggressive at night and possibly faster. Tell me what y’all think. Bye!
i would love to help with the project
While not exactly a new idea in any shape, I have played a few zombie games… including 2000+ hrs on L4D. lol. opps.
Anyway… ideas…
- Animals/zombie animals is one. Including birds… I am yet to see a zombie game with zombie birds. Animals should be both food source/and or hunters. If infected, its a hunter and cant be eaten - or well it can… but you die.
- You die, you’re body becomes a zombie, complete with backpack full of your stuff… would be awesome running into yourself.
- Special infected… leaders/intelligent zombies.
- Wind use. Downwind to avoid detection by smell
- Events… ie break into somewhere event, sets off alarm, brings zombies, but you pull it off there is some decent loot.
- Traps. Meat trap maybe.
