AssetImporter is referencing an asset from the previous import. EVERY. TIME.

Whenever i apply a material remap to a model’s import setting, i get this error:

Yeah, it should not happen. Except it happens - EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. For practically every model in every project. When it does, some of the material slots get set to “None”, and you have to redo the work again. Typically it works the second time, so it’s not a huge issue, though it is a nuisance. It’s been like this for the last 5-6 versions at least, from what i can tell.

I am having this issue as well and I would really appreciate it if someone responded to this inquiry.

I’ve spent hours figuring it out and cannot find an answer anywhere.

What I’ve found is that you can select the modal mesh in your scene hierarchy, and in the inspector on the right, drag and drop the textures there. I suggest saving that as a prefab.
