Block Letters

I tried doing a search for this, but got no results. I tried to report a bug, but whaddya know, that’s not working now. :frowning:

Seemingly at random as I move around the program and try to do different things, all the words seem to randomly turn into block letters I can’t read. I don’t know exactly what’s causing it. I’ve restarted my computer, I’ve restarted the program, and it’s plaguing me, not to be overdramatic. Anyone know what might be causing it? I’m using a standard Macbook with the “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” OS with 22.06 gigs still free. I’m a fairly new Mac User since making the switch from PC, so if you need more info, please just let me know what and where to find it. I’ve attached a screenshot of the problem.

Thank you!

Do you by any chance have a Macbook with the GMA945/950?

It’s stock, so I doubt it, but how can I find out for sure?

The GMA950 is a video chip the older Macbooks have, not software. They are pieces of crap to put it simply. What year is your Macbook from?

My friend has a Macbook and Unity does this from time to time. I also have a Hackintosh with a GMA950 and it also does this.

You can find it under the Apple Icon, then about this Mac, and more information (or something like that, on a Windows box atm).

It’s a new mac, only a few months old, but I found it (thanks JRavey). It does have a 950.

That’s not a new Mac, that’s years old. The 950 was dropped in 2007.

The reason why your seeing the block letters is because of the 950. As far as I know there is no workaround. Maybe file a bug so the Unity team can take a look at it.

But simply put, and your not going to like this… It struggles with the most basic of tasks. It is not meant for any sort of game development…

Maybe it’s refurbished then. What I meant is that I bought it new, box and everything, and so far have no reason to suspect that I bought a lemon. Other than this, of course, but that’s not really a lemon, that’s just a situation, like Jeffro says:

Well, at least now I know why it’s doing it, and maybe I can take it slow to avoid it. Thanks everyone!

This was ran on a hackintosh with a GMA950. The exact same results. I get the block letters as soon as I start the Bootcamp demo in the editor. Probably ran out of memory or something.

nmwallace, I think if you take it easy in the editor. Start with smaller scenes, with less going on. You should be fine.
