D3D error was 887a0005 D3D error was 80070057]

Hi,

Established game, many players.

I have a few players getting this set of errors (see beiow).

I assume this is a graphics card crash related to the drivers.
The latest driver is on their system for their card.
If they use the integrated card, then it works fine.

d3d11: failed to create 2D texture id=61 etc

Is rather vague, how do I work out what the texture in question is?
I assume its something to do with the compression format and NPOT?
How do I debug this error. This game is massive with thousands of elements and textures.

Your first error is this: Error 0x887A0005 | DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED - HRESULT.info which is DXGI device loss.
The ones following after are here: Error 0x80070057 | ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER - HRESULT.info (likely caused by the graphics device loss in the first place).

Microsoft has some docs about handling device loss, maybe they are helpful: Handle device removed scenarios in Direct3D 11 - UWP applications | Microsoft Learn

Have you tried enabling the D3D11 Debug layer before running the game?
You might get some info about what’s happening.
Looks like a driver crash to me, but you never know. Maybe exceeding some device/driver limit? It’s a pretty old GPU that’s showing up in the logs.

Problem is that I cannot recreate it. Its one of those bugs. So as I used Unity 5 - the player was able to force dx9 and that solved it. Still weird. Thanks for the resources, ill check them as well.
