Sorry The old ASSETSTORE design was much better and easy to overview! Now it´s make me less to go there and look!
Open the Asset Store, click the Account button at the top-right, and click Revert to Old Store.
Oh well, don’t like this silly space-wasting new assetstore design either
thanks for posting the fallback option info …
Makes me feel like I’m standing next to a shelf full of games and looking at it with a telescope. Layout is not intuitive or easy on the eye. Way too much scrolling. Some things contrast very vividly with the background while some other things hardly contrast at all and are not obviously bordered.
I don’t think this was an improvement.
Thank you for that info Ryiah!
It makes me feel like some of the important lessons the lithium incident had to offer were not learned. At least we’ve got a fallback and it was rolled out gradually, but I doubt the fallback will stay around forever and I think the new design is plain worse in every way.
Quick look is nice ![]()
I like the look but wish it was more compact
I’m a pretty heavy asset store browser and I gotta say, I didn’t even notice a real change.
One thing I’d really love is if the asset screenshot browser didn’t require clicks to scroll through. I think the “one row” layout made more sense a few years ago.
These days, most assets will include 10+ screenshots/videos and having to click one at a time to scroll through is a pain in the ass.
It’d be nice if these were laid out as just x rows of screenshots with no carousel so you can see everything at a glance.
Also (please other asset store devs confirm) … but aren’t weird things happening from developer’s perspective? The new Asset Store seems to have two states, on and off.
Either sell 3 or 4 random items every DAY, and it lasts for weeks … then suddenly barely sell anything for weeks. It comes and goes. It’s not even a transition, it’s like “wow this is amazing”, then you have nothing … control of your life is an illusion, you’re just a speck of dust stuck in a clover that’s floating randomly around the jungle …
Sales are way down ever since it started, worst being this month. I wouldn’t be surprised if inclination to browse dropped like a stone with the new layout.
I can only imagine that this is a Windows 8 style decision, to try to ‘modernize’ something without considering clearly enough what the previous store did so well.
Looks the same as it always has to me (or at least same as the last year). Maybe a bit different here or there but I didn’t notice anything different. There is the same box I can type in and the search results are displayed. Maybe the changes don’t show up on cell browser?
Ah I can revert it, thanks!
I don’t get the new look, it seems designed for tablet and mobile with a less compact, less functional design - yet you are more likely to be browsing it on a desktop as a developer I would think!
Ah so it is different for desktop only? I’ll have to check it out later. But basically I’d hope it still has the search box at the top and the results displaying beneath that. I’d be more interested in meaningful changes such as improved searching and related asset recommendations but everyone loves to play around with visuals. Lol
Sales probably have nothing to do with the new asset store given only 1:1000 non devs even get it. Everyone’s been pointing the new asset store as the blame for bad sales
thanks for the fallback… I don’t dig the new design… They should merge the preview function onto the old design.
(also, the new design seems to be slower to me)
I imagine less resources are being devoted to the new one since it’s in beta, but I can’t say for sure. I know stuff like the carousel aren’t really being updated since it’s not the live page
According to the AS team the new layout offers a lot of backend improvements and long term stuff so it’s definitely moving forward.
Publishers had an early preview and offered feedback, it was similar to the feedback here. While there seems to be a lot of wasted space and larger thumbs in general it’s kind of nice that assets get more of the available space but it really segregates assets and feels like it shifts the line toward top sellers more than it used to, reducing discoverability.
I like that it’s changing, but I really don’t like the layout. There are a lot of nuisances in navigation, the super menu is clunky, feels like dead space everywhere and when you’re finally actually looking at an asset to evaluate it there isn’t even much screenspace dedicated to it compared to the space thumbnails and previews get. There’s a lot of non-standard things happening and it’s generally a little overwhelming.
Eck. They’re still working on it. I’m certain they’re listening to everyone’s feedback and trying to make good changes before a hard launch with no fallback.
The new store design is a hit and miss. I like some of the enhancements but frankly find it a bit too wasteful on screen space.
Seems attractive though. Just not very practical for techies, and has too much dramatic upsell for people like me who just want to drill for facts. But I guess that’s what Unity is becoming, something for general audiences…
I don’t really shop much any more anyway.
The problem is that if everyone is pointing the Asset Store as the blame, then everyone is having a problem.
… And if everyone is having a problem, something did change, casually at the same time Asset Store is changing.
Initially I disregarded my lack of sales as a lack of exposure from my part. I knew it was going to happen some day, just not so abruptly. Though to see everyone’s having the same problem, in a way is a good thing, because it means it’s probably just a temporary issue.
