Exporting Model to Unity

Hello guys,

I have designed a model in maya and it was smooth in maya version. After i export the file to FBX and importing to Unity, The model was not smooth. Can you tell me why this issue occures. I have uploaded the screenshots to tell you what i really mean. I hope someone can help me. Thanks.

We are discussing about it here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-forum/exporting-model-to-unity/m-p/7261767#M45044

You can join us. Thanks.

Like your friends in the other thread said, it is probably a normals problem.
You can check this by trying to let Unity generate normals for you.

In your project window, select your model. In the inspector you can change import settings.
Then under Model/Normals&Tangents you can select “Calculate normals” and specify an angle.

But you probably need to fix this in Maya.

Hello Sylon,

I tried what you said, it looks more smooth than before. Thanks for sharing informations. But it still doesn’t look like the way it looks in maya. I mean it still doesn’t look smooth enough. I don’t know how to fix this in maya, I tried what’s told me. I will be following threads to get more informations. I at least hope so. Thank you again.

Thanks Sylon, it’s smooth now but its eyes still looks like rectangle, i don’t know how to fix this.

Thank you again

There should be a (include smoothing groups or smooth normals) check mark in the fbx exporter.
Check it.

Is the model made from subdivision surfaces or nurbs? You’ll need to convert the model into a polygon mesh before you export of it’s not already.

Hello bgolus. As i amateur to modeling, i don’t exactly know what you ask. I used normal ways to make model. I used cylinder and extrude option. Can you tell me how to fix it. Thank you.
