First Person Player Movement

So, I’m comically new to unity and am already stuck the the single most basic thing, movement. Every video I watch goes straight into different variables and equations that I can’t really understand (Did i say I was also new to coding?) and even when it try to copy what they do to a T it still gets ruined somewhere along the way. So anything I can copy and paste would be absolutely amazing, and a explanation of what and why would be perfect (but if nobody has the time don’t worry about it).

You really need to start at the learn section at the top of this page.

The beginner tutorials will get you to understand some movement: https://unity3d.com/learn/beginner-tutorials

It takes some time and practice, and you’ll learn other ways as you go. In addition to the Learn section, reading some forum posts (perhaps later on after you’ve gotten comfortable with Unity and scripting) can help you, too. Many people have the same questions, for example.

New to coding… there is a great section on this site for that, as well: Learn game development w/ Unity | Courses & tutorials in game design, VR, AR, & Real-time 3D | Unity Learn

Enjoy & welcome to Unity.

One big annoyance I’ve always had with learning Unity is that out of date tutorials can quite often cause problems with coding, be sure to check the date of your videos that you’re looking at if they’re from the year 2015 or above then usually it should be okay, if they’re anything less than that avoid them, that goes for any articles too.

Since you’re doing an FPS and are sticking with something fairly simple have you checked out Quill18’s video? He explains how to make an FPS controller and how the movement works pretty well.

If you don’t understand what he’s talking about, then you need to look at even more basic programming and get a glossary.

Thank you for your help

okay this is perfect
