Hi Does anyone have a link for the FPS tutorial?
The FPS tutorial is not compatible with Unity 2.0, so we’re not offering it at this time. Please follow the 3rd Person Platformer tutorial, since it is penned for 2.0 and much more comprehensive than the FPS tutorial was.
Cheers sam trying to make a simple grenade dont know were to start n wadeing threw the 3d tutorial for a snippet of the relevant code just seems like a ball breaker can you throw me aline here and give me some pointers on how to go about doing it

Hi Sam,
Are you sure? As far as I remember, the FPS tutorial was actually introduced for Unity 2.0…
The FPS tutorial was written loooong ago. 1.5, I think?

Ah - you’re right… I was a bit confused because of the Avert Fate images that accompanied it on the Website (but I’m not even sure if that robot came with Avert Fate or actually before)…
But even still it cam in usefull for learning some stuff so appreciate The link to the download recomend any newbie checking it out even though its not totally compatible
I went through the tutorial with Unity 2.0 and it worked for me. It contained alot of very usefull material not available elsewhere.
I also thought the marble tutorial was very helpful, but can no longer find it…link?
I really wish that there were more tutorials or demos, targeted between the short intro videos and the elaborate ( and very professional) 3D platform game. I have googled and there is not much elsewhere.
They do not have to be very elaborate. I can understand javascript ( there are alot of tutorials online), but it is still hard to get up to speed on Unity itself. …Yes the forums are also a great way to pick up info.
really think the unity team need to get on top of the situation with the demos/tutorials what i would like to c n wht i have being saying repeatedly to n e one who listens is a place on this site with demos n source code even small snippets of stuff would be great sure it would not be a huge deal to resolve n sure a lot of peeps would contribute
Are you aware of the Unify Community Wiki?
That is quite a resource, and btw, it’s linked from the unity3d.com documentation pages… see:
Unify Script Tips Wiki on:
You might also have a look at the statistics of that page:

… quite impressive, I think ![]()
cheers for the link i will keep quiet about that bpaticular subject from here on in ![]()
Yes I am aware of the Wiki. It is a nice resource, including the tutorials.
I guess I was hoping for more.
Tutorials take an extraordinary amount of time to make. Writing out a step-by-step procedure of how to go about something, and making sure it’s clear to the end user no matter what their skill level, takes a special talent. Also, creating the actual content for these tutorials is equally time consuming. Personally, I’d love to help make more tutorials for Unity, but at the moment I just think our resources are much better spent elsewhere. In the future one of two things is going to happen (or possibly both). Unity’s user base will grow to the extent that there will be enough kind souls around that will make these sorts of tutorials out of the kindness of their heart. Or UT will grow large enough that it can afford to have a few dedicated employees knocking around that solely work on tutorials, demos, and documentation. I’d love to see a mix of both.
Just my personal viewpoint on this,
Ethan
What about selling big tutorials made by 3rd parties on your web store ? this formula has been chosen by a good number of companies (Luxology and Cheetah3D come first to my mind) and I think it is a rather good compromise for everybody.
Ethan , The tutorials made by Unity are first class. It shows that they must have taken a great deal of time and effort. Job well done!
Perhaps an intern or two working on tutorials may save on expenses. Also small bite size demos / tutorials/youtubes showing or highlighting a feature or best practice would be greatly appreciated; at least from me.
Yann - That is an excellent suggestion and I hope maybe Unity will think about this. Maybe even Unity could have a contest for best tutorial - beginner, intermediate and advanced.
I almost think the Unity Developer magazine suits this role. You pay a little, you get a little in return…
Much respect to the unity folk for what they have created, though I dont understand why the fps tutorial fell off the grid(it actually was updated for 2.0 I thought) and the other tutorials,(Marble game, Car-racing) had so much put into them, its seems odd to just discard them rather than update them, so secretly, I bet we see most if not all of them resurface.
I have great faith in Utech
