I’ve tried to do several things such as make it LookAt an empty gameObject with a script attached to always be in the centre of my screen, but nothing really works and I’m confused. Basically a 1st person camera controller but in a 3rd person view.

So I’ve been going at this for a couple hours so I got pretty irritated and ended up deleting my script, which was attached to an empty gameObject and I tried to make it so it’s always in the middle of my screen, and that’s what my Cinemachine will “Look At”. But it didn’t work. I also deleted the cinemachine camera and started over so now it’s once again just a basic 3rd Person Camera controller.
My goal, all I really want, is to just be able to rotate the character with my mouse and use a crosshair to interact with things instead of just getting up and close to it, like a real game you know.
Have you looked at the 3D samples that ship with Cinemachine? There are several that have what you describe. Do any of the scenes implement the sort of camera you want?
