How Do I Make a Chain Link Fence in Unity? (Solved)

I was wondering how do I make a chain link fence in Unity. I have a picture of a fence texture and I’m pretty sure it has a transparent background but it won’t work I’ve tried every texture setting in Unity.

I want just a plane with the fence texture and the areas without texture see through. This is a much more efficient way to making a fence.

Does anyone know how to do this please?

Are you sure it has an Alpha channel when you save it out? Sometimes I’ve noticed saving from Photoshop can “forget” there’s an Alpha channel and not enable the include alpha button. If you’re doing a bunch of images at a time it’s easy to forget to check.

I’ve heard someone complain that alpha’s in .png’s don’t work properly too (the transparency without the actual channel). But never noticed a problem myself.

Go to the channels tab in Photoshop (or whatever you use) and make sure it’s got a channel for the alpha at the bottom below the RGB channels.

Also make sure you’re applying the texture to the correct type of material.

Thanks, I don’t think it has an alpha channel after doing what you did (Look at my screenshot) and I don’t have Photoshop…So how would I go about fixing this?

Do you have Photoshop and could you help me out? If not how else can I get an alpha channel on it?

Well ok now I see what the problem is. You’re using that same image you linked to above, no it doesn’t have an alpha channel. The checkerboard effect doesn’t mean it’s transparent, it’s just how you can show transparent area’s in Photoshop, and isn’t part of an image. So I’m guessing you grabbed that from a screenshot of it in Photoshop or something.

You could try Gimp I guess, never used it myself but it’s free and should handle Alpha channels, you’ll have to read up on tutorials for that though.

when i gain some distance from the fence it disappears or turns into like a checkerboard then dissapears.how can i make it look solid even from a distance…?
