To script on unity, I want to know, how to use visual studio code. I have learned C# from many places, you tube, e-books and from many more places to use it making games in unity. But I am using unity for about 2 years happened. I used and learned many asset, tutorials, but I haven’t made any games with myself yet, because I don’t have mono developer and visual studio or any other things to do C# on unity. I thought if I download unity editor-64 on my desktop, I will get mono developer or visual studio with unity. But it haven’t, I didn’t know that time that it will not download mono developer or visual studio with it. So I downloaded visual studio code, and downloaded unity tools, snapshots and unity debugger for unity, but it haven’t worked, after also when I attached visual studio code with unity. I don’t know, why it isn’t working.
Please help me to use visual studio code for unity with all rules or recommendeds you know, reply me about that.
When you install Unity, at a certain step in the installation, it’ll prompt you if you want to install “Visual Studio Community”. You can use this as your IDE for coding if you’d like. Doing it this way will do all the setup for you… you’ll get debuggin/intellisense/etc with very little fuss.
If you specifically want Visual Studio Code (which is different from Visual Studio), then follow this tutorial:
This way will require a bit more setup on your part.
There is also this
which may help with the integration. If you are planning to use VS code.
Thanks for help to lordfduct and brathnann. But another question, do I need mono developer for scripting with visual studio code? If needed please help me about how to download mono developer for unity.
no, you don’t need monodevelop if you have visual studio, or visual studio code.
Sorry, it didn’t worked. Snippets worked but that is also with a little problem. Such as when I wrote -
public flo
^The word float didn’t showed me that snippet. I think as my VS Code is an older version, it’s not working.
And as gtk# required, I downloaded gtk# also NET framework 4.6.1 for many times installing and unistalling. Don’t worked.
I will need to know how to use mono developer on unity. I am making another question. Please answer if you know about it.
Use Visual Studio Community Edition, not Visual Studio Code.
It comes with the Unity installer, when you install Unity it asks you if you want to install Visual Studio Community Edition.
Visual Studio Community Edition, and Visual Studio Code, are two completely different software packages.
Visual Studio Code is not designed outright to work with Unity and needs some heavy lifting to get it running. It is intended for developers who like to configure and tweak their ide through a lightweight package.
Visual Studio, specifical Visual Studio Community Edition, is a full fledge heavy IDE and is the IDE directly supported by the Unity editor. This is why it asks you to install it when you install Unity. Or you can just get it here:
(it’s the one on the left under ‘Community’)
If you for some reason prefer Visual Studio Code… well there are hoops you’ll have to jump through as you can tell. And even when done it’s not a fully supported IDE so you’re going to be lacking features. But if you follow the directions outlined in the links supplied it should work.
I went to visual studio free site and downloaded visual studio before make using of VS code. But when I downloaded from free Free Developer Software & Services - Visual Studio that installed into an unknown directory that I can’t open. Even that is difficult to open with winrar. I opened that with desktop shortcut and it just saw a sentence, “You don’t have anything yet” and shows no buttons to continue or solve.
So I deleted desktop shortcut and planed to unistall and install it again from the right http//: like you gave me, but I can’t found unistall.exe of that. Whatever, I downloaded it from Download Visual Studio Tools - Install Free for Windows, Mac, Linux as exect same as you gived me, but when installing VS community that shows an error.
So, the only help I’ll need I think that to unistall completely this again. And than I would install it freshly again.
Thanks for helping me for a long time. I just want to know how can I completely unistall free VSCode and community.
Go to ‘Add/Remove Programs’ and uninstall those programs. It’s in the windows control panel.
Well, do you know any http//: of tutorial about how to fully attach visual studio community with unity after downloading? If you know about full attachment visual studio community with unity, please tell me how to do that?
Currently I’m downloading. A slow download speed today on my district for an hours of rain.
In VS 2019, you can choose to install only the Unity components. Just install the Game Development with Unity. Then in Unity, you can change it to target 2019.
(image is from VS 2017, but is similar to 2019 install options)
Please help me what visual studio community is trying to say,
Another damn thing is this. when I open vs installshell.
After running this on administer, the same window is shown only without the elevation required forum. you can see another
Also when I open vs_installer ( of course not vs_installershell ) you can see bellow what error it says,
Microsoft certificate? What is that?
My main question is how to continue? How can I move to that page where **"**Game development with unity" option is shown.
Have you updated Windows? A quick googling of the error points to this being caused by an out-of-date Windows.
Updating windows?
I haired, set up of an operating system is very difficult. But whatever, I’ll try that. I think it would be very troubling thing.
Any easy way to update windows?
You run Windows Update and it does everything for you.
I don’t understand, how many damn errors and problems will I receive in my computer. When I click check for updates I’ve waited for many minutes, who knows I guess 30 minutes or more passed today morning when computer checking for update but still says checking for updates. Then I needed to close my computer for some works. Now after I done my homeworks it’s night now, I’m now free, siting on my desktop checking for update many minutes passed. But again when I clicked again check for updates, still shows this same window.
Do updating windows 7 takes that very much time? Still the same window is shown. It’s saying checking for update.
How much time I would wait for this? Also my desktop slowed downed.
Can I saw this problem to a computer shop? Can they fix the update problem? Actually there are many computer shop in my district. But no one of them and peoples of this district knows about Unity. But I’m sure they can help me only with my computer hardware problems and windows set up and updates.
Windows 7 I don’t think is supported by Microsoft anymore. I’m not sure what Updates you can still get for it. At this point, you should consider upgrading to Windows 10. A computer shop may even tell you the same thing. Otherwise, you could try Googling for Windows 7 updates. I’m not sure if there is a manual way to update Windows.
Windows 7 support doesn’t end until January 14th 2020:
But I do agree, upgrade. I’m pretty sure Microsoft still lets you upgrade to 10 for free.
As for OP… the laundry list of problems you’ve been having, all seemingly OS/environment related. It says to me you might have some underlying problems on your computer… I don’t know the status of your computer or anything, but personally if I were you I’d be like screw the headache and going towards a fresh install of Windows 10. But that’s me.
Visual Studio Community requires Windows 7 SP1. If you don’t have the service pack it won’t install. If you’re not positive if you have the service pack you can check by opening the Start Menu, right clicking on Computer, clicking Properties and from there it should mention which release you’re on.
Agreed, and it wouldn’t hurt to pick up a new computer in the process. A Windows 7 computer can be up to a decade old and that’s an awful experience for game development of any kind. That it’s update process is slowing the whole computer down is a good indicator of this. Windows 7’s update is single threaded. It should never slow anything down.
Now I’m wondering what the specs of OP’s computer is.
I kind of want to see a screencap of the System Properties screen like @Ryiah suggested looking at.
