I'm so confused as to what we can even talk about and discuss any more

Let me start by saying I know many of my posts are controversial and would have been unheard of years ago. But at the same time, what an insane time in this industry.

I feel I’ve run my mouth enough of late, and no one else seems to be chatting. I don’t know if my account is on the verge of being banned for interacting in these forums, for raising questions, etc.

No one else is saying anything, no other developers, no Unity employees, no Unity management.

I’m genuinly just curious about what we’re even allowed to talk about, or what we SHOULD be talking about.

It’s so surreal, and all this silence doesn’t help, and yet everyone is just mum.

Anyway, appologies again for all the crazed rambles and posts on this forum, at times I’m just trying to figure out what the heck is going on, and other times I’m hoping maybe I can help with stuff, but I do kinda worry i’m just coming off ass a jarkarse know it all and everyone just wants me to shut up.

So inviting any and all opinions and thoughts from anyone who might want to chime in. Feel free to be direct and candidate as possible if you wish. My DM’s are also open.

And if this thread just dies off I can also take a hint.

The .Net Core CLR thread was used for a little discussion about recent layoffs and how that would affect the project, but the thread was now locked. Same goes for the behavior team layoffs.

But you are right we definitely need a general thread for discussing the future of unity, and why unity management has gone silent on many topics.

I feel like derailing other topics to discuss frustrations is only a temporary solution, until it can be moved to a more appropriate place, such as in the general discussion area.

With the new forum I still have a hard time finding such topics (i try to look at the latest topic, but it gets filled with more and more pinned topics)
I guess if moderators are wondering why more off topic posts are appearing, my guess is the new forum software forces us to stay within the major existing topics through the pinned topics system, and does not easily let us create and discover the various categories we really need.

You can unpin them you know?

Thanks for responding! And to be honest, I’m not sure if we need a thread to whine and moan. Does that help them? Does it help us?

I’m genuinly curious about what our role even is any more.

Seems threads about AI are too taboo. Threads about what’s going on at Unity are too taboo.

Talking about the happenings and the political divide in this indsutry and why things are in the dumps are taboo.

I don’t know what the path forward is, how we can have a dialogue so things can get better, what our “role” should be as unity users and how we should engage in a way that is positive and fruitful. Sometimes in order to help others you must be critical.

I’m aware. But it gets filled with new pinned topics. And I guess not everyone is aware of the unpin function. I would prefer to have the pinned topics in a separate section

Definitely not, there just needs to be places on the forums for all kinds of discussions without derailing existing threads, also off topic should be allowed

I also think it should be allowed to complain and rant on the forum in dedicated topics, as this can still give valuable Insights where the current frustrations lie

I mean there is a thread about the layoffs: The Reasoning Behind the New Round of Layoffs

Can’t speak for everyone but I am pretty over you derailing every thread with your ramblings.

I know I should probably just block your account, but c’mon mate, get a hint.

I know spiney, I won’t resort to personal attacks in this thread though. If you’d like to take this to dms i am more than happy to oblige.

the core of the forum community moved away when they have decided to implement those fees. those that were forced to remain with the engine, chose to not engage with the forum because it was not fun anymore. then they have changed the forum design and other people moved away. it also doesn’t help that there are a bunch of accounts that attack anyone criticizing unity. anything unity does, even things that are clear mistakes and are damaging a unity fan developer like firing the behavior team. that is ok for them.

so is why you don’t get too much human interaction and what is left is sometimes just toxic attacks.

see? this user posted that EVERY thread is derailed by IllTemperedTunas ramblings. what is the point of this post and why so negative? why be a white knight for unity all the time? and hate everyone that have concerns about what unity do?

you will never do this, you like this too much.

It truly is surreal, like we’re in some kind of ghost town of what used to be a fun, vibrant community. Maybe we’re crazy to stay. It’s just kinda sad.

Sure there are other communities, you can go on reddit or discord, but for me, I prefer the silence over those. As a solo dev working on a personal project, Unity is a big part of my life, and it’s been kind of a bummer that there is no community surrounding it, or what little community that does exist is so divided and hostile towards one another.

I mean you’re forgetting this is a technical support forum. Not a social hang out.

The offtopic section only existed in the old forums to prevent offtopic happening in the actual support forums. It’s not the main purpose of these forums.

I mean I’m not the only person to point out how they drag threads offtopic with their long posts about their misgivings with the industry, and they have had a substantial amount of posts removed in the past for doing so. We genuinely don’t need to hear about it in every thread.

And nothing I said there was in defence of Unity.

Fair points, this is the sort of feedback I was actually hoping for.

And I understand this perspective from those with your perceptions. I’m hoping for a more cohesive feedback.

But I will concede that on these forums, in the current state that its in, I do feel like the minority voice most the time, so I do wonder if I should bother engaging at all as it seems to mostly just piss people off.

altepTest has accused me of being a Unity defender, it’s best to take what they say with a grain of salt.

I mean I don’t take seriously anything they say. Most of what they write is not in good faith to begin with.

Since you are asking for a feedback, if you want my reason and honesty, I have no intention to chat with a person, who is mostly rambling essay long pages and write made up stuff. Plus taking any social media headlines as a true, spreading misinformation, or assumptions, withouth confirming things first. That took place in number occasions, if want to ask.

Way your posts sounds, are repelling, even angry, unconcise, wall text and more like waste of readers time.

Other now locked thread was mostly filled by very few members, going in circles with an off topics.

So yeah I don’t read such posts, if these are not constructive and not bringing anything of an essence to the discussion. I have better things to do.

For your advise, I suggest calm down before writing anything. Read forum once per day at best. And reduce posts to few sentences, rather that forcing readers to scroll pages.

End of the feedback.

Can you give me an example of what sort of sensational social media headline I said was true or what kind of misinformation I have spread?

Yeah, I can see how someone posting walls of texts would get annoying. My posts used to get diluted by a more active forum, so I can see how they would stack up now and get aggravating.

Feels a little awkward that this thread has turned into me vs. the forum, was hoping for a dialogue more generally useful for everyone about what we should even talk about in general any more.

said who? a community is a community for people to interact between them, make social connection and increase the possibility of helping others for free.

if you want technical support read unity documentation, all answers are there.

explain the reason why you have downvoted this post, what of my points there were not ok with.

users asked for unity to explain. unity was silent, unfortunately some staff members created the impression that unity clarified the situation. I’m certain they were in good faith and they did not wanted to give that impression. So is why I was posting there to highlight the mistake.

I have no issue with them locking that particular thread till they will have an answer about that technical aspect of unity IF they will have an answer at all.

scarp that, I’ve read the post at the end again now. they locked the thread without promising they will clarify the position of unity regarding the users concerns. they just locked till there will be an update about that package. good luck with that. typical unity behaivour.

Lol. You realise 99% of the threads on this forum are asking for technical help? So should they all just sod off and read the documentation instead?

I mean your own made up ramblings about the Unity Hub closing your projects has nothing to do with CoreCLR. So like Tuna you were taking the thread off topic and contributing to it being locked. Well done.

And I’m just one of 6 other people who thumbs-downed that post. Maybe get a clue.

Dude, we don’t know why that thread was locked. Don’t jump to conclusions. It’s possible some of us contributed to that, but I don’t think anyone wanted it locked, it was the only thread where any engagement was happening at all.

You keep citing this small circle of posters as if they represent the broader thoughts of the forum, that’s a bit unfair.
