If I understand it correctly, lightmapping should bake how a currently set up light in my scene to the objects that I Have set as static. I’ve been playing around with lightmapping but it would always have weird results.
For the last time, I tried removing all lights from the scene, set one object in the scene as static, then hit bake selected, but it made the texture of the object brighter. As if a light is directly hitting that object. Can anyone please explain what is happening?
It sounds like you have another light source. First insure you have the lightmap toggle in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (it appears when you go to Window>Lightmapping). Now check the toggle for “Use Lightmaps” on and off to check the effect is definitely the lightmap.
There are two other possiblities for light sources - GI (Skylight/HDR) ambient (Edit>Render Settings). You can turn the Skylight right down to zero (Lightmapping window) and turn the ambient color to black (Render Settings). That way you should get a scene completely black and then you can experiment further from there.
One last thing to try - go to the scene file in your project and look at the folder created (same name and contains lightmaps). If there is a BeastSettings.xml file in there it will be overriding your lightmap settings and possibly blowing out your results by using too high skylight or hdr data (unlikely if you didn’t setup).
