No controller input in editor in play mode (but input debug shows action)

Using the new Input-System, I don’t receive any controller input in the editor in play mode. But the Input Debug window does show input happening.

Why is it not passed on to my game?

It all works fine on my target platform.

All in all, I think the new input system is a mess for gamepads, at least on MacOS.

One would expect to use the general GamePad input controls, but that doesn’t work for any controller and I end up having to create separate maps for different controllers.

Why isn’t this implemented properly?
Why do I have to add “Stick/Y (Joystick)” for a game controller?
