Prebuilt shader with texture for specular

Is there a shader already built that has a color, bump and specular that allows you to chose a texture, rather than a color picker?

Thanks!

“Bumped Specular” does everything you need unless I’m not understanding the question. The diffuse is stored in the RGB values of the first texture. The specular amount is stored in the Alpha channel of the first texture. The bump is controlled by the second texture.

Now if your taking about storing RGB color information, rather than just an 8bit channel, for the specular I think there’s a shader around here that does that and I will hunt it down if that’s what you need.

I didnt realize that the alpha control the specular. I thought that you would need a separate texture for the specular channel, like the Bumpmap channel.

I do have a question; since I have the specular as a texture, how can I use that (convert it) to the alpha channel in Photoshop on my diffuse?

Thanks!

In Photoshop open the Channels window and create a new channel. By default it will be the alpha channel. Make sure to save out to a format that is able to store alpha channels (PSD, TIF, TGA are the most common).

I meant if I have an image that’s grayscale (for the specular) is there a way to get that into the alpha channel in photoshop?

yes, exactly the way described above

convert the image to 8bit grayscale and then copy the image into the channel

I still cant figure it out. I have a psd with the diffuse color. I have another psd converted to 8bit grayscale for the specular. I dragged it over to the diffuse and it creates a layer, but I can’t figure out how to get that to show in the alpha.

You’re probably best off doing a search for a tutorial on alpha channels in Photoshop.
