Rewired vs New Input System - Which would you go for?

Howdy folks,

Here’s the situation; I’m using Unity 2019.4.18f1. I want to add controller support for my first person game, with a view to play it not only on PC, but on platforms like Switch…etc

Rewired is a thing that exists. But so does a new Unity input system.

What’s the current consensus as to which is more sensible to go with?

Rewired. Supports more controllers and battle tested. Has native support on the two platforms (PC and Switch) that you specifically mentioned. It supports many different platforms.

Out the of the box controller support is extremely comprehensive.

There is a trial version of Rewired so you can see what you are getting before purchase.

@longroadhwy Thanks for the insight.

The consensus seems to be that the new Input System is unintuitive and undercooked.

Rewired. The new input system errors on my machine - I can’t use it in the editor, and it throws exceptions when I run other people’s builds containing it on my machine.
I posted here over the course of a year testing a whole bunch of different versions, but didn’t receive any responses at all from unity and every version fails.

I bought rewired and it’s great, it works, it’s simple, it’s powerful, it’s flexible and is 100% in every way flat out better than the new input system. Don’t let the price put you off, it’s worth every penny, not least because it works :wink:
