Hi all

from what i remember, it works, but was so slow that it became unusable for me… (this was few years ago).
Okay, thanks. I’ll give a try and see if it’s practical or not.
Regarding speed, it should be a USB 3.x port minimum and the USB stick one of those Hi-Speed ones. You know, the ones where you pay 4x the price for the same GB - those will make you appreciate the difference between fast and slow write speeds or the difference between “almost unusable” and “quite bearable”. And also how many write cycles they guarantee before failure. And how much read/write speed can be sustained as the chips heat up.
Size should be plently, since Unity projects tend to grow exponentially due to the temporary files in the Library folder. You don’t want to be running out of disk space while working.
On an USB 3 stick it works well. Tested that just recently and only slowed down compilation and project opening by about 30% compared to the SSD.
However I would not recommend to do that. USB sticks are not meant for constant rewriting! They will “wear” much quicker than an SSD and will corrupt faster.
For less than $30 you can buy a 256GB SATA SSD drive and the enclosure necessary to make it external. I have the Sabrent enclosure that I linked below with a larger drive in it and it’s fantastic. Just be sure to let Windows properly “eject” the drive once you’re done working with it before you disconnect or power it off.
I have used a similar Sabrent with good results. It is a bare minimum USB to SATA tool.

This performs much better than a typical USB stick. It is also a great way to get some additional use out of old SATA SSD drives.
