Toxic Bunny HD. 2D Platformer rebuild in Unity in 5 months.

Hello,

We are a small team in South Africa revamping an old game we released in 1996. We revamped it in Java and 5 months ago picked up Unity and rebuilt it again. Very pleased with the results Unity made it fairly straight forward.

Anyway here is some game footage.

Would love to hear some feedback from the Unity community.

Thanks

looks fun and it seems your company really loves toxic bunny.

I had never heard of it before. I guess you are planning to go mobile with it? What was the reason for a unity port?

We started the port to unity specifically for Windows 8 but we plan to do iOS, Android and Win8. Its going to take some work as the levels a huge not sure how we will trim it down for performance.

But since the Unity port is so much better then the Java version we releasing this version on Win, Mac and Linux soon.

The other reason we did the Unity port was to get experience working with Unity. Its all good and well doing a few tutorials but a proper project really forces you to learn much more about a platform.

Looks amazing.
Did you use a custom sprite atlas solution or a already made one?

Thanks chrisall76,

We used a custom atlas although a lot of credit to various Unity forums and users out there. The details are in a blog post Building a 2D bunny in unity breaking the 24fps limits.

The previous game was limited to 24fps (seemed like a good idea in 1995) so we had a few challenges to overcome getting FPS at 60 looking great. I think the way we built the sprite atlas works for this game, but I would make changes for a future 2D game. All the sprites are bundled into the same set of sheets so sometimes texture space is going to waste.
