[Unity-Hub] Feature Request: Optimise installation of editor!

System: MacOs Sequoia
Case: I want to install latest Unity Editor 6.2, in total it required 8.49 GB, I have 22 GB available on my drive.
Everything looks fine on paper and it seems that I’m able to install it.

I start installation process, from my analysis(could be inaccurate in some places) there are 3 stages

  1. Installing .pkg file (around 5 GB)
  2. Unpacking contents of .pkg file into tmp folder, at this step in Unity 6.2 folder there 2 folders (another 5 GB)
  3. Installing editor into “Unity” folder (At this moment we have installed around 10 GB)
inside Unity folder appears another “Unity” folder with Unity.app, which goes up and takes 9.33 GB, after it we start install another? Unity.app, not inside original editor folder, it goes till 3 GB, before we hit a wall and receive nice message from Unity Hub (Install failed: Not enough space).

My genuine question here, why do we need to install so much stuff?
Unity Hub said that we needed only 8.49 GB, ok, I have that amount of space available, but installation process requires ±30 GB !!!

I get that 8.49 GB is a space it will take after installation, but the fact that we need around 30 GB to install it is crazy and it is clear to me that something during installation process must be optimised by Unity Hub developers.

P.S.
Don’t suggest me funny workarounds like installing it to external drive and then moving it to original drive

I did monitor my Finder for a few minutes and noticed that disk space sank by 3 GB over 2 minutes for whatever reason, and I’m not installing anything. So the extra disk usage may have other reasons like virtual swap file and other application’s temp files. So this is definitely not representative to take Finder reports at face value. But the trend is clear.

I started downloading 6.2.8f1 via Hub starting at 113.5 GB free disk space.
Right after download completed: 108.3 GB (ca. minus 5 GB).
Then during install it fell to 87 GB! Woah! That’s about minus 26 GB during install.
At the end I had 105 GB left, a minus of 8.5 GB which seems about correct.

I sent a bug report CASE IN-121224 (Hub: User Menu => Help and Support => Report a bug). User menu is your account icon, top-right.
