Had to stop using unity for a couple years (layoff, problems, moving …etc) but hope to get back to my project now, I see there are two latest versions:
Unity 6 (6.0000.0.33f1) LTS
and
Unity 2022.3.55f1 LTS
want to take my project to the latest version, it’s a VR project that I have posted on Sidequest, I now have the time to add levels and re-release. Plan to work on it for several more years to come and keep releasing/updating adding content.
Which version do you recommend I update to?
What are the differences between the two above versions?
So 2022 is well 2022, 2023 they announced they decided to go with 6, in part it was so they werent tied down to 1 release a year, i guess more so it could slip to say 1 release every 18 months maybe more…
tbh is the number really a big deal? for me, whats in it matters…
2022 LTS is the previous LTS that is being faded out but it simply still is an LTS because that “Long Term Support” goes longer than than the product cycle (despite them having slowed down the product cycle now not to be annual anymore - that’s the main reason for the new name).
Unity 6 or 6000 (primarily named this way for the sake of version number arithmethic) is the newest cycle with the .0 version being the LTS.
If you don’t plan a release in the next 12 months, I’d go with 6.1 or 6.2 and increment alongside development since there will be another LTS in the not too distant future.
