I realised that shader “scripts” just allow vertex colours to be ambient and diffuse (therefor the keyword AmbientAndDiffuse) colour at the same time but not for instance diffuse only.
Is there a chance that the unity developers will extend that with the next patch? I need to have the vertex colours influence the diffuse part only.
There’s a chance, but I doubt it. It was never documented, but ColorMaterial Diffuse worked in earlier versions of Unity; since then, they decided it’s not important enough.
(I assume that you can get it working in Cg. But I never had a problem with the RGB components of any ColorMaterial setting on the platforms I care about, so I’m miffed that it was taken completely out.)
It’s a shame. I read your post and what else can I do but saying that the developers use an economical argumentation: It’s to expensive and brings no profit. The other side of the coin is: I cannot trust unity if they follow the mainstream (what they do if they just stay on features usefull for many people only) since I want to create Indie Games (that try to not depend on the mainstream).
