The thing, being a common user, is that there are so many shaders on the Asset Store that have been abandonded, replaced by better Unity shaders that I am currently completely lost at deciding which shaders I should currently buy and which shaders Unity will release in 1 month in a better version and free.
You’re probably too optimistic about what Unity can publish in 1 month (for free). But of course - your doubts are natural reaction to dozens of shading solutions that have been abandoned because they did’t fit up to date Unity standards (like Standard Shader).

From what we could test except for some very special shaders it looks always better to switch to the new U5 shaders. We do not review any custom shader yet or that reason but we may find some good new shaders soon.
I hope that oneday AssetStore works in Finland, 5 days down now…
“what would you like to see on the asset store”
A complete map for the Shadowgun: Deazone GameMaster Kit
I’d love to see a section for developers to fulfill special requests. (Something like what Fiverr is doing, but for Unity assets) Unity developers from all areas could offer up whatever custom services they think they’d like to fulfill and show samples of previous works. Customers could search for such services, and compare developer’s videos, images, notes and reputations before making a decision on who to hire to create their custom scripts, shaders, meshes, or whatnot. The price would be completely up to the developers. Yeah, it’s not quite what you asked in your question, but this is what I’d really like to see next for Unity. You guys have pretty well covered all bases in the Unity Asset Store already! ![]()
That’s a great idea, especially with art. I really think something is wrong with the idea of creating a bunch of assets that no one is guaranteed to want or need, and might miss the mark with someone’s game style by a hair. If you take any two assets on the store made by different artists it’s almost certain they won’t mesh together even if both are fantastic. A break in style makes a game look very patched together. Some sort of easy way for developers and artists to hook up would be a brilliant solution.
I would have to agree, tired of seeing this , and some with no support, . Then seeing assets go free, quickly, is another because devs cant handle the support… This makes the asset store look bad, I have cut down on buying assets alot because of these issues, soon, I may stop all together if I continue to see this, some of the popular assets seem to lack decent support since Unity 5 has come out…
about time… sorry but wasted money on stuff that had good reviews, to have the publisher bail or was bailing weeks later… or going free… I know Unity can’t predict this, but this should also clean up the store a bit more, so it may make it easier to search for good assets rather than not good ones… I see some that have not seen an update since 2012… Thats horrible.
I would so much like to see Kubold animations (Unity Asset Store - The Best Assets for Game Making) for Third Person Controller (https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/27438) or TPSA.
What’s stopping you? TPC comes with starter animations, but you can replace them with your own, such as Rifle Animset Pro.
Yes, but there are many animations that Kubold has not done. It would be great if Kubold did more animations in aspects to what we need and not only what he personally likes. If he had a look a TPC or TPSA, he would know what we require.
What would you guys say bout something like this:
But for Dailymotion video platform? Got the core working for an project of mine, if someone find it useful, i would think bout it.
I’d like to see one really good cross-platform water solution (oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds, lava, depth colour and caustics, ripples, foam, waves, waves breaking etc). I can but dream… ;(
Check out Infinitypbr.com – all my stuff is PBR (and real PBR, not guessed values), and all procedurally created so you can modify the look.
Water, water, water (good, cross platform, with all bells and whistles…)
I would LOVE to see a terrain editor that lets you start by drawing a 2d map and ends up with stiched together streaming terrain.
I wish there were more options of monthly payout for publishers. In some countries (mine included) paypal transfers are blocked and being the only way to receive monthly pay, lack of it negates the whole idea of treating asset store like a serious platform to monetise content.
I would love to dedicate all my time to asset store and people who buy my content but sadly i just can’t. Hopefully the situation will change C:
I think I found the world-formula:
Authors need a service system where customers can actually tell them what they need.
The asset would then be available to all users and would become part of the “collection” (for example as PropsAnim does with his animation service which seems to be a profitable business model).
@acaroppos I think you can forget about Kubold, he only does what he likes, he does not listen to customers. I have switched to another MOCAP author.
