CTO Steve Collins steps down

I’m not used to general discussion being that slow to post news!

Good. The fewer people whose primary background is in the mobile slop field, the better.

I’m sure he was part of derailing Unity 7 plans as outlined in the Unite 2024 talk, so I’m not sad to see him go.

He was likely just an interim CTO similar to the Red Hat CEO. That said even if he wasn’t like the others have said it doesn’t sound like a bad thing he’s leaving.

By accounts elsewhere on the internet from ex-King people, we have lost nothing of value.

Seems like a pretty normal dude to me. Maybe he left because of all the haters judging him.

With haters you mean shareholders?

Well, that’s where the money is tho.
You rather Unity tries to chase Unreal Engine - which is impossible because Epic can carelessly pump money into it which Unity Tech never could?

The urge to chase UE while not loosing their fundament of mobile games is what resulted in the split of rendering pipelines.

I’d rather Unity focus on its core feature set instead of desperately chasing every monetization practice instead. Shockingly, the answer isn’t “we have to base ourselves off hyper predatory practices” or “ultra graphics all the time always.”

Whatever the issue behind the curtain was. Just hoping things can be better going forward for this amazing engine - I don’t believe I’m saying this but there’s really nothing that can come close to Unity. Would be a bummer to see all the negative biz stuff taking place in what would otherwise have been an awesome product

Sad state of affairs for Unity. I hope they can once again find their footing.
