I am very new to unity and the part of game making that i really wanted to do was actually making pixel art sprites for my game. I know that unity is free and i really do not want to spend a lot of money on photoshop
just to make some pixel art for my games. Are there any free sprite making programs that you can do pixel art on and you can put your art onto unity?
P.S. I also want to animate my pixel art, so keep that in mind.

Of course you do not need to use Photoshop, there are many free alternatives.

If all you’re interested in is animated pixelart, I suggest giving https://www.piskelapp.com/ a try first - that’s exactly what this is made for.
I wouldnt even use Adobe Photoshop, i would use Adobe Illustrator if you are going the paid route. Along with the above suggestion, I would add SketchBook. It is now free, can hook up to a drawing tablet and is pretty powerful.
As roykoma said, go the free route, dont spend money until you start making money from the games you make.

Check Aseprite. Many people use it for pixel art animation.
Technically it is free, IIRC you can compile it from github repo yourself, but it doesn’t cost that much either compared to PS.
