Hey guys im an American Unity developer working in China atm & I trying to download a few assets I paid for but its taking FOREVER like 1 hour per mb to download here. My internet speed isn’t the problem its fast, does unity have any servers out towards my way? So I can download faster???
hello, you might get used to that or buy a vpn service, its not about unity blocking anything from china its china blocking/restricting their traffic out of their territory.
Yup. I found an incredible difference between the Chinese network in my hotel and the company network on an American owned site (still in China). Don’t know the exact ins and outs of Chinese internet law. But there were plenty of sites I could access with ease from the company network that were blocked or throttled from the hotel.
The download rates a slower due to the server being in Texas for the Asset Store, it’s an issue we’re looking to address.
It’s not illegal to go to any websites while in China, unless they are adult or discuss off-limits topics like Tiananmen Square or Tibetan independence.
As well as blocking a lot of sites, China also throttles all traffic to websites that aren’t hosted in China, so they are crazy slow, to encourage you to use a Chinese-hosted alternative. Using a VPN does somewhat get around this, although I don’t know the legality of VPN’s. I did use a VPN while in China though. It’s a necessity.
The main site that impacted me was Facebook. Which I guess probably has off limit discussions somewhere on it.
Of course it does. As do youtube, twitter and other blocked websites.
