Hi! So, I recently switched to Ubuntu, and installed the latest LTS available, but, the performance when I enter playmode is much worse than in Windows 10. In an empty project in w10 I have around 800fps, but here I have 200, also, I have some spikes just moving a cube going to 150fps. Will this going to have a bigger impact once I start developing?
this just fits so well.
And without knowing what setup you have there’s no correct answer. But even then i wouldn’t worry as fps is not what you need to worry when developing/working in the editor. And you’ll probably not ship an empty project, so measuring this is also not relevant.
If you’re interested in an estimate of the graphical performance threshold of -your machine in the editor- just set up a quick test with cubes or similar, maybe an animated character, shadows enabled, that you copy over and over until the fps start dropping.
You can also look if player settings allow you to switch between opengl and vulkan and whether that makes a difference.
I’ve had no problems working on ubuntu in the past, but i also wasn’t worried about fps that were above my intended target fps. You can also see an irrelevant drop in fps as a benefit, meaning when it works fine on your machine it then very likely works even better on other peoples machine.
Yeah, I dont really care about FPS as long as its at least 60, but my concern was more about if the linux version would perform worse and it would not be enough to work with a project but in a windows version it is.
About my setup it should be more than enough for the kind of projects that I make (AMD Ryzen 7 2700x and RTX 2060 )
I need still to check that about changing between opengl and vulkan, I havent found it yet, but thanks for your reply
