Hi,
Can someone tell what is required and the steps to use Unity Remote with Unity free version which is possible in 3.3 version?
the same as making it work with any other version - install on phone, connect device through usb with pc, ensure that device has the usb debug enabled, then start unity, that should be it.
when you do it wrong the editor will tell you so in the editor console including the explicit steps ![]()
So where is Unity Android Remote?
Thanks
AaronC
Go to Android Market and search for Unity
Download Unity Remote and install it
Next, Plug your USB cable, and set USB debugging on, also you can set it so screen doesnt dim and lock
Once it’s plugged, launch Unity Remote on your phone
Only now launch Unity itself on your computer. Won’t work otherwise
edit: also since it’s just a video stream, go to quality settings in editor and set Editor’s quality to max. Neither of other settings will work, this is editor based only
There is no Unity Remote that I can see on the store.
I’m in New Zealand if that means anything?
AC
I did not say Store, i said Android Market, the one that comes with your phone ![]()
Sorry for the confustion, thats what I meant
There is no Unity Remote on the Android MARKET in New Zealand.
So how do I get it?
AC
Search results yield this

If it does not show up your device might not be supported by unity at all
The screenshot unhappily does not expose much on the device but you need an ARMV7 or ARMV6 + VFP device to run unity on it.
Here is smarty pant page to get it around the perhaps stupid search functionality: http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/unity-remote_tsui.html
unsure if it works though if the app really does not show up, you will have to test
yep, it does not show up for you. I am in Ireland and for same keywords i have 2 results - “WavPlayer” and “Unity Remote”
edit: Dreamora was faster
Thanks. I tried that link but it only works for mobile and redirects to the market, so back to square one. I cannot find any beta APK here on the forum.
This rules out about 90% of the popular android phones in my country so at least I’m certain this is a road I dont want to go down now.
Cheers
AC
define popular?
Never heard that NZ is behind the moon technically ![]()
If the device has a snapdragon cpu (800mhz or 1ghz normally implies snapdragon or similar, ARMV6 with and without VFP only range up to 6xxmhz as far as I’m aware) it would run the remote.
As for the apk: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/77556-where-can-i-find-Android-Remote-in-unity-3.2?highlight=download+android+remote+.apk (search topic was download android remote .apk just in case :))
Yes were one of the last countries to get Android, had it maybe 6 months now? Its still the buzz on telly. We were the first to get Windows 7 mobile or something like that though. Theres two main devices at <$200 flooding the market.
AC
well 6 months isn’t bad, thats when android really exploded and finally helped to get a userbase thats not purely on crap devices (HTC desire was among the top and runs on a snapdragon 1 too, so technically “outdated hardware” but still very well capable to run unity games), but <$200 sounds bad given thats without contract, cause without contract at that cost, you don’t get hardware that likes 3D gaming at all (no dedicated gpu or opengl es 1.0 or opengl es 1.1, with ARMV6 potentially without VFP and even worse cpus so stuff where even the iphone 3G can compete with and win over it - these devices are often focused purely on Java based stuff so 2D games if at all is the highest they go reasonably well. The Sony X10 mini and mini pro are among such devices for example though the real X10 is not much better either)
Yep the markets flooded with
and
Which is what I have. I got the APK on the device but as expected it wont run.
Heh should’ve kept my $100.
Thanks for the help guys
AC
Thats what I hate google for. due to the lack of hardware requirements any crappygoo can use android 2.2, pretending the device is not old like hell … both sit on a 528mhz qualcomm cpu which likely are from the last “hell series” (MSM7201 series, the last series prior the Snapdragon, technically OpenGL ES 1.1, Adreno 130 gpu, but unhappily commonly deliveried without a VFP, a feature that already iphone3G had a felt eternity ago)
So for unity development, its a death birth (as any device with a screen resolution lower than 800x480 commonly I would say)
But it will do fine to testdrive your java based applications on ![]()
