Platform Support Update: Upcoming Magic Leap (x86_64) Build Target Removal in Unity 6.5

Starting with Unity 6.3, the Magic Leap (x86_64) build target was limited to existing projects only. You can no longer create new projects targeting Magic Leap (x86_64) in Unity 6.3 or newer.

Support for Magic Leap will be fully removed in Unity 6.5 and in OpenXR package 1.17.

What this means:

  • If you already have a project that relies on the Magic Leap (x86_64) build target:
    • You can continue working in Unity 6.3, which remains a supported version.
    • We recommend staying on 6.3 (an LTS release) rather than moving to 6.4, which is an update release.
  • If you need to create new projects, this is still possible in Unity 6.0 - 6.2.
  • If you are building an OpenXR project for Magic Leap, remain on OpenXR package version 1.16.

If you have questions about how this impacts your project or upgrade path, let us know in the thread.

what about chromebook, google play games for pc (needs x86_64 for certification btw and alot of android games are made with unity and some people asked about this in Platform Support Update: Magic Leap (x86_64) Build Target Limited Starting Unity 6.3 to then have no response), and emulators

Hi @Raidenxd2, Unity longer supports the x86_64 Android architecture from Unity 6.5 and beyond.

  • From Unity 6.5 you will no longer be able to select or build for the x86_64 Android architecture in Unity.
  • From Unity 6.5 Unity will no longer ship with the x86_64 Android runtime.

For ChromeOS, we stopped supporting after 2022 LTS, and Android x86_64 support to target unsupported emulated platforms (such as Google Games for PC) is unsupported. If you still need to target Android x86_64, you should remain on Unity 6.3 or earlier.

You can read more about removal of the Android x86_64 build target here.
