Unity AR Foundation/ARCore/Vulkan Bug: Gamma Color Space affects AR Camera Background (Feed from Device Camera is too Bright)

I used Raw Project with Unity 6000.1.5 and “AR Mobile” Official Template with the Development Build option checked.

Added Vulkan API by the manual for the 1st place in the list of API in the Player Settings, and check “Auto Graphics API” flag: Universal Render Pipeline | AR Foundation | 6.1.0

Then switched Color Space to Gamma in Player Settings.

How to reproduce:

  1. Open Project for Android Target Platform.
  2. Build & Run with Development Build checked.
  3. Observe Camera Feed too bright.

Other Environment:

  • MacBook Air M2
  • Samsung Galaxy A71
  • Android 13

Bug Description

This bug makes the Camera Feed too bright, which is incorrect. Color Space should not affect AR Camera Feed.

I created a Bug Report: #104420

Thank you makaka-org for filing that bug.

This is indeed an issue that was also discovered internally with our ARCore Vulkan rendering support, and the needed correction is currently not happening on the camera background pixels when color space is set to gamma as you have described.

is there any update for this?

Hi Makaka,

I am sorry to report that we have not been able to make any further progress with this issue as yet. Thank you for asking about it – and I sincerely hope that we can revisit this issue very soon. But I can honestly say that given the current holidays coming, it is very unlikely to be fixed in the remainder of this year.

Is there any update for this?

Thanks for checking back in. This issue hasn’t been prioritized for development yet and remains open. We do take age into account when prioritizing bugs, so it’s likely that this will be looked at in the coming months. Thanks for your reports.
