I was using Unity Version Control earlier with a simple Unity project with a simple name. It replicated it randomly somehow and turned it into a long string. Original project name: Project_Unity 6. It turned it into Unity6_2026_07_21_03_30_23. I couldn’t change it, and the original repo was empty and duplicated: Project_Unity6. That was frustrating.
But then I was working on another project, and it completely locked the version control because I switched to Gluon temporarily in the application on Desktop just to see what it was about. When I went to back it up later and check in changes, it said it failed because I had unchecked changes in Gluon. So I go to Gluon… “Object is empty.” So I lost my entire project and was unable to check in changes, or even use Unity Version Control simply because I opened Gluon once.
To be clear by the way, I did troubleshoot using resources from the documentation, and nothing I did could “free up” the lock on my files. My entire repo for Project #2 was totally broken. I couldn’t check in, couldn’t push, couldn’t unlock. Just completely ruined my entire workflow by even involving UVC. The solution was to download Github Desktop
I would like to help you and understand what happened, as this is the first time I hear from something like this.
I don’t understand this, I don’t understand how the first repo was empty if you were using it. I would love to understand it.
You have to transform the workspace if you want to switch from the regular GUI to Gluon.
The workspaces are not compatible, and the GUIs alert about that.
We are going to work later this year to simplify this and avoid frustration so stay tuned please.
