Hi,
Anyone have any advice on getting the interior of my house to look more lit…?
I have checked my ambient settings, but as soon as I bake lighting, things get much darker - to the point that it looks unnatural in contrast to the exterior of the house.
I have a baked reflection probe inside the house, and I have light probes all throughout the room.
Trying to figure out a way to make it look brighter/more naturally lit. As it sits, it just seems like the only lighting I really get is from the mixed directional light shining through the windows, and the rest of the room gets nothing.
I recorded a video of the scene, with the before/after bake.
I feel like I must be missing something basic and I’m getting tunnel vision trying to sort it out.
This happens with both Progressive and Bakery.
Hey, it’s difficult to tell what’s going on, as you’re not using physically-based light units.
The sun should be at 100.000 lux, exposure for sky around 12-13 given it’s a lightly cloudy HDRI, and indoor exposure for the volume inside the house should probably be somewhere around 2-3.
In case you don’t want to use such values, then it’s up to you to find values that offer good visuals, but you’re on your own if you want to go the non-physically-based way and will have to juggle with “random” exposure values.
Have a look at the cheat sheet here, and maybe the new template as well for an example of physically-based setup:
In addition to Pierre’s notes, I suggest that you check if auto exposure is active in your volume settings.
Having an interior that look bright doesn’t only comes from the lighting, but also from the eye adaptation in reality, that is done through auto-exposure in realtime.
Judging from the end of your video where you get in and out of the house without the sky beeing to bright or the interior to dark for a few seconds (eye adaptation time), I’m assuming it’s off.
