Shape the Future of Unity for Fortnite

Hello!

You may have seen our announcement at Unite about bringing Unity to Fortnite. As we build the bridge between engines, we have a lot of technical decisions to make — and we don’t want to make them in a vacuum.

Please fill out this short survey if you’re interested in learning more, and a chance to be considered for:

  • Exclusive Demo: Get an early look at the Unity x Fortnite integration before the public.
  • Product Council: A select group of studios to stay connected with our development team and help shape our roadmap.
  • Insiders Program: Development updates and priority for early access.

Thank you!

I have soooooo many questions about this and how it will operate on a technical level.

How is a Unity build integrated into Fortnite? Probably not just a container or separate process, but rather a build platform for Unity devs that outputs to “native” Fortnite. Perhaps an “enter playmode” that runs within Fortnite, but which looks somewhat different than in Unity Editor.

And when it comes to programming - if at all - I hope nobody needs to deal with Verse (Gemini is spot-on: “.. the syntax feels like a math paper written on a keyboard from an alternate dimension.”). Definitely prefer a C# to Verse transpiler.

And physics … how will that behaviour differ?

And scenes … will we get OpenUSD standardized scene editing built-into Unity and Unreal (via Omniverse)? Or a separate scene editor?

Or perhaps it’s much, much simpler than I imagine … since any way I look at it, it’s likely to be minimalist at first because it seems like such a daunting task to truly “bridge engines”.

PS: I don’t expect answers. I know it’s way too early.
