Update about the future of the Unity Forums and Unity Discussions

awesome! is it possible to theme them a little differently so they dont look so similar to text post? Opacity50% on the text, that sorta thing? Otherwise, awesome!

yes, make them gray and smaller text or something because it may get annoying when reading constantly looking at that part of text. I know all the people that have signatures WOULD LOVE that everyone else memorize their signatures but please don’t. Make them different so we can unconsciously skip them when reading the page

edit:

never mind I can disable the signatures for everyone else in profile options which I did. So it doesn’t matter for me ignore my idea as I don’t see them anymore

try here

Try what?

I want to receive notifications and then be able to delete them.

From

to

I know that we couldn’t do that on the old forums but here that list is really annoying.

Ah I get ya the only thing ive seen so far is you filter the list here

but that wont change the drop down on your profile image and you have to do it each time …Ill investigate

Another QOL improvement Asset Store Assets now has its own product area on the main landing page

It doesn’t appear to be an option in Quick Links yet.

it may take a refresh or logout and in I will investigate

Just want to add my voice here. I’ve been getting email notifications about threads i haven’t commented in for several years. I figured a setting in the forum preferences changed, but i went to change it back and found everything is wrecked. Looks like there’s a lot of changes, and i don’t even know the full extent, but one thing i can say for sure is that the infinite scrolling makes this basically unusable for me. I hope an option will be added to disable it, otherwise i’ll have to rely on stack overflow instead.

Infinite scroll is a base of the platform and cannot be turned off.

We will investigate the notification issues.

Is it possible to have a real time or semi real time update as we move the right vertical slider ?

By semi real time i mean as the mouse button is pressed and drag the slider, if stop then update. but without leave the mouse press, so there is continuity

Currently need to drag then leave the mouse to update, which is a real killer of useability if need to browse the thread fast

Also another issue is that after drag and update, the update is very disrupting, with all screen flashing and loosing the focus on where we are, is it also maybe fixable ? e.g. update in a smooth and ideally fully real time way ?

That was one of the main perks of old forum. e.g. when click on a page number, the whole page was loaded and was ready to browse the content

maybe hire someone that knows webdesign? as it is now is like a mismatch of various stuff thrown on the page. the space on the left is hard-coded or something because if you zoom in it remains the same. I get that is how this forum app looks which is ugly by default, doesn’t this has themes like wordpress?

That would be a question for them: https://www.discourse.org/

No mention of “theme” on their feature pages so probably not much one can do but start changing the default files. One time in a previous life decades ago I was dabbling in webdesign. I really hope they separated the functionality from the appearance part not like I was doing. I don’t believe they are so unprofessional. maybe after they get the forum working and fix all the bug at unity they can ask the previous CEO, the one that said we all are stupid, to give 1% from one month of his salary to hire a designer to tie up the appearance of this forum.

That would be super honest if you shared usage stats before and after…

I’m not going to give you potentially commercially sensitive information.

However I can share these two charts

As you can see both page views and signups have increased since migration. ( these charts are updated with the legacy forum and answers data since migration)

Currently we are seeing an increase across the board from the old forums and answers data

that really is a huge difference, which is weird as my latest topics just dont seem to move, unlike before.

Remember a lot of the content is consumed as well as created. Time on pages is also up about 2 minutes. I some will be the newness but i suspect also newbies finding content quicker and easier than before.

Potentially it’s just the constant email spam from old forum content in the new forum.

Emails don’t create sign ups or Page views that’s a different metric
