Update about the future of the Unity Forums and Unity Discussions

Right, but you can click the email and that would count. The email spam is endless haha.

The numbers don’t add up sorry it’s not email spam.

Thanks. That’s substantial. Logged in user looks miscounted. If not, how do you explain that?
Crawler uptake comes from AI companies? Good for those using LLM, and I must say, they’re reaching a point where they’re getting useful.

Search Engine websites are backed up by chatgpt like tech now.

They found a “legal” way of stealing content and no one can do anything about it. (Except maybe the music industry mafia, which are trying to figure out a way to get paid every time someone creates AI music in the wild)

The logged in count comes direct from the site so it pretty accurate, also matches data collected via amplitude.

I’m not sure what you’re asking how do I explain that more people are logging in, well I’m hoping because the site works better for them. It was kinda the idea of what we did, to make the site more appealing to novice and new users, the changes to the layout, like the landing page and nesting of tags was to try and make it have some familiarity with the old forum.

As for the crawler numbers we are working on ways to reduce it

Hi,

Great, thanks, glad it is still considered for a fix

What does this logged in account mean for Unity?
I’m logged in on my phone right now; in a few hours I’ll log in on my computer and I’ll stay logged in on my phone.
I bet there are people who are also logged in on their tablet(s) as well as on their phone(s) and computer(s).
What do you make of these figures?

That would be a single logged in user ( your authenticated against your unity ID). We also have session count and DAU numbers which are different. Out DAU/MAU is currently averaging 23% that indicated stickiness anything above 20% is considered good.

(Old forum was 11% old answers 7%)

We have teams of data peeps who analyse and check the figures, they are pretty accurate.

(DAU-MAU) Daily Active Users and Monthly Active Users.

I’m not going to go into to much more detail on this, the site is working and is getting more engagement. I will be trying to make improvements to easy the transition for everyone, but this is the platform we will be using to rebuild the community around.

It’s not just this site that is my remit, my role is to look at all aspects, from our interactions with you to how we respond to feedback and how we gather your wants. It’s going to take time to rebuild but that’s what my role is about.

As I have said before I will try to be as direct and transparent as I can be with you all.

don’t
this feeds LLM which in turn can better answer complex queries

LLMs for Q&A is self-cannibalizing. Increased use of LLM leads to less use of forums and Q&A websites, which makes LLMs have less content to feed on. Extrapolate, and the long term end result is that forums die out, and you can’t find answers for questions about new tech since the LLM models can’t gather it’s data from those forums.

So perhaps we shouldn’t try very hard to make things easier for the generalized Q&A LLMs, as that’s going to make them self-implode a bit faster.

I agree with you

I think there should be new system. Some kind of mechanism that we would have LLM answer but then have expert verify them and us people discuss over if it true. Then feed that back to LLM

Maybe just use LLM as bot on forum and have button to upvote or downvote it, have a score system and allow unity people to edit and correct the answer

Using LLM as assistance like today eventually lead to that kind of problem

My strategy was to unpin all the new stuff, but now something has appeared that cannot be unpinned at all?

@Brach_Unity is there a way where clicking on latest topics takes you to the actual /latest not /unread ? is there a toggle I missed for this annoying behavior?

Thanks for the update. Does Unity still plan to migrate signatures from the forum?

Just a quick on I am away for a few days, so if I don’t reply I’m not ignoring you all, I’m just not online be back next week.

Keep the faith and keep being our awesome community.
