Hi, i would like to ask some details on the upcoming Standard Pipeline deprecation.
Is there a time frame for this action ?
It is known when the Standard Pipeline will be deprecated and in which Unity version is planned to happen ?
Also does that mean that every project - shader - asset etc in Standard will no longer work in the new Unity versions ?
This would be a devastating effect, so would be great to know if by deprecating means to keep the Standard Pipeline active for older shaders - assets etc and just not update it, or will be a complete removal.
A complete removal could mean that a vast number of assets would also be useless and that would create a huge issue, so would be great to know at which version this may happen, and if thankfully may not happen in a full extend.
If they meant something else is another thing, would be great to have some clarifications on such a massive extinction event that could destroy millions of projects directly.
Where by full support they obviously mean “we will do absolutely no improvements to it and ignore all bugs related to it, even ones we introduced recently”, I guess Unity 2024 is when they will remove it.
There’s tons of stuff in Unity that has been deprecated or considered legacy and are still available for use in Unity. Unity have always about not doing exactly what you’re worried about.
I’m pretty sure BiRP will remain in Unity, and just not be updated. Most likely non-render pipeline project templates will be removed to try and judge people towards URP or HDRP. I can’t remember if I’ve seen a Unity dev say this or not.
