I had the same issue and here is how I fixed it.

  1. Download the latest stable Mono here
    Download - Stable | Mono

  2. Add FrameworkPathOverride to the .bash_profile
    export FrameworkPathOverride=/Library/Frameworks/Mono.framework/Versions/Current

Restart VSCode and It works.
