Windows 11 24H2 is now available as an experimental OS version for Unity Build Automation

Hi everyone,

As part of our ongoing efforts to modernize Unity Build Automation and improve build times, we are happy to announce that Windows 24H2 is now available on the platform as an experimental OS version.

While this ensures builds run on the most up-to-date software, it also introduces foundational infrastructure changes designed to drastically reduce build start times and shorten queues in the future for builds running in the Windows operating system.

Although currently labeled “experimental,” our internal testing shows the environment to be highly stable. We encourage you to begin moving your Windows build targets to Windows 11 24H2 now. Please note that as part of our regular infrastructure lifecycle, we plan to deprecate the older Windows 11 image later this year; we will follow up with specific dates for that transition soon. The list of supported platforms in Windows 11 24H2 is available in the Unity Build Automation documentation.

If you run into any issues or have questions about the new environment, please reach out via a support ticket on the UBA dashboard.

Best regards,
Unity Build Automation Team

When do you expect to have 24H2 with boost disks available?

Since switching to this experimental version, I have seen my PC build times in the free tier go up from 23-28 minutes per build to 30-35 minutes.
